High Speed Steel Hand Taps come in three styles: Taper Style: Starts the thread square with the workpiece. Plug Style: Generally used in thru holes. Bottom Style: Generate the thread to the bottom of the hole. A tap set contains 1 taper, 1 plug and 1 bottoming tap.

Tapping 1018 steel was a challenge for these taps. I had to switch to Moly D cutting oil to make any progress. Using my mill as a tapping fixture to ensure the tap started straight, using the taper tap and Moly D they were OK. Using cheaper cutting oil I felt like I was going to break the tap. There were OK for the price

Bought these so I could "expand" the threads in my media cart to upgrade the casters to a larger wheel. The OEM wheels has 3/8" holes and this worked perfectly to grind out the extra 1/8" that I needed!

After breaking the tap from my tap and die set I was expecting these to be similarly difficult to work. These cut through 1/2” steel twice as easy as the one I replaced.

I have no problem cutting cold roll steel with these taps, and they cut to size.

Works great, I tapped 36 holes through some HR Steel plate with no problem. Its high speed steel, not generic carbon steel. Comes in a plastic case. MADE IN AMERICA. Drill America also sells a lower cost imported set if you need to save a couple bucks.
