This soapstone pencil leaves a great mark on the fabric that is easily erasable. The pencil is cleverly deaigned, easy to hold and sharpen. Works best on canvas and tough fabrics, not so much on slick material. Be careful though, if it falls hard enough on the floor the stone will break (still totally useable even after that though).

This type of marking pencil was recommended by the Sunbrella company to mark the outdoor canvas. I watched many tutorials on sewing with Sunbrella before I attempted to make an awning. I used the pencil, but I believe the light colored beige fabric I was using made it difficult for the white soapstone to be visible. I think it will work better for someone who is working with a dark colored canvas like navy blue, or cobalt blue, or possibly red. I may use it in the future to mark other dark colored outdoor waterproof canvas.

Fast delivery, great for using on material that won't be ironed before washing. If you do iron over this pencil, it's not the terrible mess that a wax pencil would make, but it may leave a mark on your fabric. Just be careful, but it's a great marking pencil.

I had bought this to use for my decorative chalkboards and ended up using it first for construction. We used it to mark boards for cutting to fit a re-flooring project. I still have chalk left and plan on using it sometime the next time I use my decorative chalkboards.
