I'm pleasantly surprised with the build quality on this, knowing how much sellers on Amazon love to upcharge even the most cheaply built products. The aluminum housing feels sturdy, and the feet on it are super grippy and adequately prevent the bay from vibrating around when the drives are spinning. The indicator lights are an odd choice, as a red light just means the drive is spinning and not necessarily that something is wrong. The fan is not super loud.I immediately switched the unit to RAID 1 and tossed in two WD Red Plus 10TB drives; within 30 seconds of power on and USB connection the drives were showing as one volume within Disk Management. The data transfer speed is as-advertised, and I appreciate the USB-C to -A adapter they stuck on the end of the included cable. I will update this review in the future if I encounter problems, but so far so good. I hear you can get these even cheaper on Ebay from time to time. :)

I had a couple of 1Tb WD drives sat in a draw doing nothing, so I decided to give the Cenmate 2 a test to see if I could get some value out of them. The drives clicked into the caddies OK and fitted perfectly. I set them to RAID 1 and connected to the Synology, the drives appeared but weren't in a RAID 1 configuration. I then discovered that you have to press the reset button (for 10 secs) to change the RAID level in the Cenmate 2. Did this and everything worked perfectly (I would have given 5 stars, but the manual is small and hard to read).Hyper Backup on the Synology was able to access the drive and works well.

I've been using the Cenmate dual bay hard drive enclosure for a few days now, and I'm genuinely impressed. It's currently connected to a N100 mini PC running Debian 12 (Bookworm) as my media server. The enclosure performs flawlessly, reading my drives at full USB 3.0 speeds. The drives fit securely in the caddies, and the rubberized feet provide excellent stability, minimizing vibrations. This positive experience is a stark contrast to my previous purchase, the MAIWO dual bay enclosure, which I have since returned. Despite its promise of 10Gbps speeds and a sturdy appearance, it was a major disappointment. It only functioned correctly with USB 2.0 connections(40Mbps) and caused excessive vibrations, making it feel like a bad joke. After such a frustrating experience, I felt it was important to share this review for anyone with a similar setup actively looking for a dual bay enclosure.

When i got this i was under the impression i could just pop in my 2 old western digital hard drives and connect it up that way, but I've now realised that they would have to be taken out of there enclosure which mine are sealed, these hard drives are very old so i don't know if new ones are easier to open to access the raid drive to install in this device, as for the raid hard drive enclosure it seems well built and everything is included, good quality and value for setting up more storage space in the one unit.

I only turned this on about twice a month, to backup files. After about six months, had same issue as other reviewers. The original files/folders became inaccessible. So I decided to reboot and after the reboot the drives no longer formatted, showing as RAW. I had two 16TB drives with about 75% full. I want to vomit. Wish I heeded the warnings of the other 1 star reviews.*********IMPORTANT UPDATE************ Crazy how Amazon automatically "striked-through" my review directly to the seller after they randomly refunded me without message. I am leaving this message on this product page to help whomever I can. When I try to leave a review on another product from the seller, it literally states that I can not, because this seller/brand currently has an unusual amount of negative reviews and only verified purchasers can leave reviews. Please keep that in mind when reading the rest of this. Just making sure that everyone knows that this HDD Enclosure WILL eventually remove the partition/formatting of your hdd's. After it happening to me, months after the return window expired, I left a negative review about it, reported Cenmate to the Attorney General and Federal Trade Commission (even though they are not US based, but Amazon is), due to continuing to sell this product, even though they know about the severity of the defect. I messaged them directly asking them why they would knowingly jeopardize consumer's valuable information. When it comes to HDD/Storage, deleting all info can be absolutely devastating and almost always cause significant financial losses.A few hours after the message, I was just randomly provided credit, with no other message, confirming that they know about the issue and are still knowingly selling a product that destroys valuable data. I am expecting not only the recovery software to be reimbursed, but the HDD's as well, as there is no way of telling if permanent damage has been done to my drives. If you had same issue, please make sure to report to Attorney General and Federal Trade Commission. It would be great to get at least 100 complaints, as that forces the FTC into doing an audit on the situation, and once they see the intentional selling of a faulty product that literally has the protentional to cost customers thousands of dollars in damages to their hardware/data, they will help you use that information to have the Attorney General get you reimbursed for actual damages. Getting 100 complaints is unlikely, but typically if they get 10, a couple months later you can follow up with the FTC and they will provide you with the proof that there have been multiple complaints, for you to use in small claims court. At that point you can do the maximum $3000 (I believe that is still the max for small claims) and since they obviously will not show up, you will be awarded the full amount. Also, as a bonus, this is a Chinese product, so the Judge will definitely award the full amount. As we all know, Amazon has become disgusting in many ways, but allowing Ali Express-like scammers to infest the entire site has gotten to the level of unacceptability.

Idea is great but execution leaves much to be desired. There is a dimple on the bottom of the tray that doesn't allow a drive to sit flat. Plus, the clip intended to replace screws doesn't match up to where the screw holes are on modern drives. It arrived and 20 minutes later, I had to ask for a return authorization.

Bought to replace Hard Drive enclosure that had crapped out. This is designed for two drives, but only needed for one. Is OK as I may decide to move to MIrror or RAID arrangement in future, so now have option. Istallation was a breeze and powered up and ran easily. Decent product.
