It's solidly built, strap is long-enough and quality. Pad has a nice, tight bounce. I like the heaviness and the satisfying feeling as I strike the pad on my thigh. Perfect for traditional grip. I get loads of stick-time while watching TV. Pricey but worth it.

Been playing decades and have used all kinds of pads, and this is the best I've ever used. To me it feels and responds like a well-tuned snare. Hard to describe but it has "snap" and "pop." Watch Steve Smith's video demos and you get the idea. I use it on a flat surface. I bought a second one for simulating kit drumming with my practice pedals. Pricey but worth it because it's well made and solid. Thanks to Steve Smith and DW!

I never write reviews but I have to say that I love this thing. I’m just starting out on the drums, and I have a long commute to work that I spend mostly on the train. My train usually isn’t m packed so I have a row to myself, and I go ahead and practice playing with a metronome. It’s a little bigger than I thought it’d be (I didn’t look at the dimensions) but it’s comfortable, and I just throw it in my backpack. I’ll probably be using it around the house while sitting around watching tv too. One thing is that the pad is fairly close to your body, so i found its more comfortable to use traditional grip, rather than match grip. It’s okay though, i feel i would’ve had to learn traditional grip eventually for certain rudiments. I’m only 5’6” tall, but I included pictures of the strapped practice pad in case it can help anyone

Good for practicing with traditional grip. A bit difficult with matched grip. You can get the very similar feeling as the actual snare drum during the practice. Good design, too! Get it while it is on sale!

This is made really well, and isn't very loud. It has a nice feel and is useful if you take the train, or just don't have the space to bring your pad with you and set up. Imo isn't that great for practicing match grip though....

I have a few drum practice pads. I got this because I figured it'd be convenient for work when I have some downtime. This pad has sturdy feel to it. It's got a good weight to it without being too heavy. The strap is robust and I don't think that the plastic clip will break anytime soon. The rebound is so-so, I still prefer my remo practice pad with stand. This item is more practical for places when a stand setup is not.It does what I bought it for. But it is somewhat expensive for what it actually is, and I suspect it's because of the signature it.

While placed on your right leg is the best position for your left hand, however for your right it strains your elbow. The pad is well made and fits the leg nicely. The pad surface itself is a little bouncy. Wish it were more like a real feel material.

The price seems a bit high for a couple of pieces of wood, a rubber pad and a nylon belt. But seems to be the case with anything that says DW on it. That being said, I have no complaints with the pad. I play it almost every day. I strap it to my thigh when I am on the computer, and bang on it when I am waiting for long downloads, or Skype calls, and sometimes just cause I feel like it. It is very sturdy, well made with good materials and some thought for the design. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a practice pad.

This pad is quiet, portable, and a real joy to practice on. It sits comfortably on your thigh, and the base of the arch is squared off so it holds stability on a platform if you want to practice standing up. The entire structure is rock solid.Another good feature is the slightly angled playing surface. You can just turn the pad around depending whether your preference is having it angled away from or towards you. The surface has a nice natural response, and corresponds well with the rebound of a snare drum.My old Billy Hyde 12" pad has been gathering quite a lot of dust since I upgraded with this one. The Billy Hyde is still cool if you just want something to dampen a snare drum, but if you want something quieter and more versatile, this pad is really the answer. I take it down to the park, go on a hike and practice in the forest, or whatever!Thank you Steve Smith, DW, and Amazon for such a great practice tool!
