It catches crabs. Very durable metal. I've used the trap over 100 times and no issues to report except one. The string this thing comes with sucks, it lasted about 20 times or so and... Complex to replace but feasible though (however not my job).

The idea is great. The construction is the problem. If you replace the strings with wire cable and use a washer instead of the spreader contraption it comes with you’ll be good to go. Super fun to throw off the pier and pull up crabs

If you do not mind replacing the string, then purchase this item. The trap is good quality, however its a shame the manufacturer feels they need to install such low quality string, that prevents the arms from articulating evenly when pulling trap in, not to mention almost lost one trap, but was able to retrieve it with a hand.

I have been purchasing Eagle Claw products for over 50 years and never disappointed, until now. The traps are cheaply made. The line that is secured to the bottom of the traps was not the proper length which caused the sides to get caught in the ring where the strings that pull the sides up go through. This prevented the sides from dropping down when the trap hit the river floor. I had to find some string and redo the lines at the proper length. Additionally, the sides would slide left and right leaving gaps for the crabs to escape when retrieving the traps. A pure waste of money.

I use it to catch blue crabs in Cedar Key almost every week. It is easy to use. Most important is that it will be opening automatically under the water.

Very cheaply made, Cord keeps breaking and Traps don't close all the time.....Spend the extra money and get a better one.....!
