Pretty deadly in snow and ice. Not recommended over 5 mph. Factory differential allows one wheel to roll while the other pushes which uses the wheel with the most traction as a feather of an arrow to keep you headed straight. With this differential, both wheels always have resistance and want to kind of lock up and slow down, so neither wheel has traction or just rolls freely. It's deadly on snow and ice and you'll wipe out quickly. But on mud and dirt, it locks up great!

I was a bit apprehensive when I saw the source of manufacturing- as a professional mechanic it's hit and miss from that part of the world. But the quality, fit and function have met all expectations. I did not have to "clean up" any sloppy manufacturing, it was clean and shipped in a good box. Only time will tell, but in normal driving it functions perfectly and is almost invisible until called upon- which is exactly what it is supposed to do. This is the next best thing next to a true locker for offroad use and has been used by OEMs since the 50's- tried and true design. Put one in front and rear differentials and nothing else streetable is superior. Get you one (or two) !

What I mean by 'passive locking' is that on wheel spin on either side this will lock the axle and stop it. I didn't want the expense of the more intricate locking systems out there to install on a Dana35 axle. If I were a hardcore rock crawler I would upgrade to a Dana44 and spend the big bucks otherwise. As for this mechanism it works really well on steep climbs of loose gravel and mud, locking things up when it should. I'm currently running 33x12.5's and have heard reviews that locking functionality degrades with larger tires. I'll be going with 35's in the next year so we'll see how true that is. For now though I really like this as a budget friendly passive locker and have no complaints about it.

This thing is freaking awesome. I put it on my little jeep. It's like butter. I have to dump the clutch every now and then to make sure I have things working since it's so smooth. I re-geared while I had the cover off. I am very pleased with my purchase. The lunchbox locker in the front will have it go when I save up a little.
