This weed eater is great for cutting small trees and brush up to 2 1/2 inches or bigger. Best of all it takes the Dewalt battery.

There is a lot to like about this weed eater, but the instructions are not one of them. Even by Chinese standards, the instructions are severely lacking, having very small black and white pictures and are poorly translated. Because of this, I had to figure out a lot on my own, which is something that not everyone can do very well.To start with, the instructions say nothing about what to do with the spanner tool that comes with the weed eater. It is for putting on the spacer that must be installed before installing any attachment to the head. You must install it first, and with the correct orientation, then the attachment, and then the final locking nut.The manual also doesn't mention how to keep the head from spinning while you try to tighten up the locking nut. Finally I got frustrated and got a magnifying glass and noticed a tiny postage stamp sized picture of them sticking the included screwdriver into the hole at the end of the head so that you can lock it in place and keep it from spinning. There is no dedicated locking button for this purpose, like most of these have, which is very disappointing. The manual also does not tell what size trimmer line you need to buy to replace the included line once it's all used up. The best I can tell, it's .105", but .120" would probably also work, but I've not tried that one yet.Lastly, the manual does not tell you what length you must precut the cutting string, since this does not have an automatic feeding head. For anyone interested, the length they must be cut is 9". I only know this because I measured one of the included precut pieces myself, not because it was mentioned anywhere in the manual.I would also mention that the cheap quality plastic guard broke with me on my first use. I was cutting some small saplings with the included skill saw blade and it bound up and caused it to jump and it broke the guard. I didn't expect it to last long, but I did expect it to at least survive the first half hour of use. With all of that out of the way, there are things I like about this weed eater. It is light weight, it uses a standard DeWalt battery, instead of some proprietary battery, and it comes with multiple attachments.I did have success in cleaning out a lot of small saplings, all on a single battery charge, using the included saw blade attachment. This would have been difficult and arduous work with a chainsaw because it would have involved a lot of bending over and risking my good saw blade hitting the dirt and ruining it.I also tested the weed eating head and it works well enough, but I would have much preferred a self feeding head rather than having to precut trimmer line and having to manually change it out often. This also greatly increases the chances of getting poison ivy on your hands by constantly having to handle the cutting head to change out the cutting line, which is a bad thing. All in all, this is a pretty good weed eater, but I'm not sure it's worth the current asking price of $119.99, especially when the guard is so poorly made that it broke on my very first use, but I'll leave it up to you to decide that part for yourself.Good luck and thank you for taking the time to read my rather lengthy review. I hope you found it to be helpful.

This is a great little lightweight weedwhacker with a significant instructional problem. The problem is that in setting it up, we couldn't figure out how to put a cutter on, despite reading all the instructions and doing everything they said. It wasn't until my buddy figured out to use the included screwdriver at a pretty severe angle in the hole that we could finally unscrew the blade holder and put on the trimming disc.Once we got it on, the lightweight product was easy to use and cut everything. Each blade did what you would expect. The lines for grass, the straight blade for thicker stems and the saw blade for the really thick stuff. I haven't tried the steel wool attachment yet, but I just read that it's for moss and I do have some of that on the sidewalk in my side yard, so I'll have to try that next. The fact that it comes with a screwdriver and wrench, gloves, goggles, a strap and everything else makes this a great package for the price. And personally, I would rather tools come without a standard battery than with yet another custom battery that you have to find room to charge somewhere.4½/5 for a great tool with a significant instruction problem (like how do I change the blade?).
