This is a very basic unit with no temp offset, setbacks or scheduling capabilitiesNote that this is factory set in °F but can be mechanically modified to show °C

The back light does work. It's just that the factory settings have it set to OFF. You have to turn it on. Read the instructions. No wiring diagram included. Very tight and compact inside difficult to wire. But after all the aggravation and cursing, it does work. So it's staying.

Installed this on my electric furnace, works good. Easy to read Instructions were easy to follow. It does have a light but I would not call it a back light. You push the button to set the temp and the light comes on. Or you can set the light to be off all the time. Light stays on a couple seconds then goes out. That's good enough. Furnace cycles as it should according to the set temp. You can adjust the room temp readout to match the set temp. I used a separate thermometer and set it to match that. It was factory set but I did adjust it a little. Use a small pair of needle nose pliers or hemostats to wire it up. It was a little tricky, the wiring bar is small but it's not bad. I would recommend this.

I have installed a lot of digital thermostats in my home over the years. I have 6 different heating zones in my home. I found this units instructions difficult due to the fact that there was not an actual diagram showing the placement and labeling of the connection points. The labeling of the points was so tiny on the unit that I didn't notice that they were even labeled at all. Also, the position of the connection points in relation to were the wire came thru the back of the unit, made it very difficult to get the wires in the connection ports.

I purchased this thermostat in December 2021 to replace the original thermostat that came with my travel trailer. The original was Coleman Mach. See picture. After replacing it, the Emerson worked excellent. I can adjust the temperature degree by degree and is controlling it very good. It is a great product and worked excellent for my application.

I found it so frustrating to try and install that I just gave up and ordered a different one altogether. Yes, it was more expensive (about twice as much $) but so much better. This product is low budget; cheaply made and cheap-looking and was impossible (well, for me, anyway) to get the wires from my wall threaded thru the (little slot in the) back and into the body of the thing and then immediately 'bent' 90 degrees and pushed into the appropriate little holes. Not enough room to work with — I already had short wires sticking out of the wall (my problem — not the fault of this thermostat, I give you that), but I found it just entirely too "tedious" to try and get the wires fed in thru the back (pushed through a slot, but it's not big enough to allow much movement of the wires coming thru), and then 'bent over' so those wires could then be pushed into the tiny receptacles of the thermostat. So, I then went ahead and spent twice as much on another brand and got a much, Much better product (easier to read, easy to adjust and easier to wire up)! I returned this 'Emerson' one to Amazon and immediately bought from Amazon a "Model 701" thermostat. It's also single stage, non-programmable, and lighted, but oh, SUCH a better product, and SO much easier to work with!! I had absolutely NONE of the problems with installing I'd had with this 'Emerson.' I sure can't recommend this. don't be a cheapskate and try to cut corners with this thing: I say spend a little more and get a better product!Jack in Colorado

This was exactly what I was looking for. The display shows you the temperature of the room and what the set temperature is. Some people had commented that you can't see it, but you definitely can read this display very well. I personally don't care for setting multiple temperatures, this lets you set the temperature and forget about it. You can easily adjust by pressing the up or down button to change the setting. I had my heating and air guy install it while he was doing my bi yearly maintenance check on my systems. It was a quick install. It is accurate. Very readable. I would highly recommend this thermostat.

The wire terminals could be better positioned. The most logical way to route the wires would place them behind the temperature buttons - the ones you use are not part of the face, they must contact the actual buttons attached on the circuit board. It may be easier if you have only one thermostat cable, and not two (the air handler installer opted to add another cable rather than replacing the existing one). It was a simple install, other than the wire routing. The labels were helpful to mark the wires being used. I have found I do not need the backlight - all the settings seem to be easy to read. I would prefer that it not need a battery, but many models do. I was looking for an inexpensive replacement to our old, erratic mercury switch thermostat. I have found it to be reliable and accurate so far. It does audibly 'click' when operating, but so do many others - have not found the noise problematic. Other household items make noises as well. This thermostat displays both the set and current temperature at the same time. It also displays the current temperature when it is off. The cycle is not fine-tuneable (there is only one permanent modification available, meant for hydronic), but I have found it to cycle the system acceptably.

Technically it is not complicated to install, but the terminal strip is small and there is not much space to route the wires, making a bit challenging to get the typical rigid 18-gauge solid wires connected properly. You will need a Phillips size 0 screwdriver to fasten the wires in the terminal strip. There is a backlight, but requires a procedure using the up/down controls to enable it.The two required AAA batteries ARE included.Defaults to degrees F, can switch to degrees C by cutting a jumper wire on the PCB.
