The Eon Portable Espresso Machine is a refined looking and beautiful travel espresso maker. It's a sleek metal body that has a pretty lines. The pieces for this machine have been thought out with the aesthetics of an espresso aficionado in mind. As a travel machine, it weighs in at a little over 1.6 lbs and most pieces are metal, metal with rubber gaskets, or in the case of the cup, thick plastic. It is compact, but densely heavy. The Eon is only for ground coffee, with no options for other types of coffee pods. The operation is straightforward and directions were helpful and accurate. I found the heating of the water even a little faster than another brand and the power button timing helped to visualize that. The layers of filters within were gorgeous to see and the distribution and tamping really spoke to some serious coffee love. Admittedly, I did not have espresso grind available and my creama was non-existent. This may be operator error but this is also a fairly fast extraction time and may not really allow much time to get that froth. This was not a draw back for me. I followed the clean up instructions and it was fairly painless. This is an espresso maker at its core - the end press is half of that plastic cup (see 3rd pic) or equivalent to a tiny Starbucks shot glass. Espresso die-hards will love this but this is not a coffee maker. You would need a separate way to heat water to even make an Americano. This is heavy metal and not ideal for backpacking due to weight and bulk. It would be a pretty nifty way to indulge for a day hike where weight may matter less. It may work really well for campers who have much smaller footprints, such as tear-drop trailers or caravans (less full-size RVs that tend to have room for or come already tricked out). For its price point it is on par with several other brands so if deciding on a travel espresso machine, may look closely at options - both coffee options (ground only vs pod options) - and attachments (such as car charger option, or focus on espresso experience like this one, with distributor needle and tamper).

This little machine has become a bit of a travel ritual for me. Whether I’m at a hotel, camping, or just avoiding the office coffee, it gives me that familiar espresso fix with minimal hassle. It’s super satisfying to have a fresh shot wherever I am. I still can't quite get the right amount of crema despite trying different grinds so docking one star for that.

This is a very well made, and great feeling portable espresso machine. The build quality is great. The exterior is all-metal, including the portafilter ring that holds the basket. I love that it comes with a proper filter basket too. The fit and finish is fantastic. It operates very easily. The basket holds up to 18 grams of coffee. The kit comes with a dosing ring and tamper, which fit together and pack neatly into the cup that attaches to the bottom. THis makes it very easy to travel with, even with a loose dosing ring and tamper. This machine is easy to operate. Fill the basket, level and tamp the grounds and then attach to the bottom of the machine. Hold the power button to heat the water. When it beeps, press the button to pull your shot. I recommend filling the water to the full 70 grams, otherwise you might end up with a short shot. It is easy to clean too.The resulting espresso is drinkable, and I have enjoyed the shots I have pulled with it. Just note that it is a small portable machine with constant pressure, which cannot compare with a good quality home espresso machine. To use this to its fullest capability while on the road, you will also need a hand grinder and small scale. Even with these additional items, it is easy to use and would pack well for a short trip.
