I tried a few different cables including the ones that came with it and could not get it to acknowledge any incoming optical signal from my TV. I also noticed that after coming back to write my review, the product information had changed on this website. The one being shown now looks nothing like the one that I received.

Looked great, worked fine, but it was delivering the TV's hum to the amp. The problem hum is coming from inside the TV so is not the fault of this eSynic device. I returned this device and ordered instead the eSynic device that also has Bluetooth. The hum is not in the Bluetooth output of my TV, so there is no hum now in my system. (I still had a tiny hum so to eliminate that I needed to ground the eSynic device, by plugging an RCA cord into the unused RCA connections, cutting off the other end of that cord and soldering the ground of that RCA cord to the gounded chassis of my electrical outlet box. As soon as I plugged in the audio ground RCA the tiny hum disappeared and never came back.

I bought this because my Tascam US-2000 audio interface's 1/4" headphone jack was wonky, stereo cutting out and glitchy. The interface also has digital coaxial in and out, I'd probably never have a use for those otherwise, so I bought this neat little adapter to be a DAC (digital-to-analog converter) and turn my digital coax out into a new headphone jack, and the extra RCA stereo pair is just a bonus. The sound quality is great, just as good as the line outs on the interface. The quality is nice, as it has a nice black brushed aluminum case, it's not all plastic. My only issue with this unit is the volume control knob. It's smooth and works fine, but it pretty much has to be turned up to max to get a normal listening level. Anything below about 75% isn't really loud enough to listen to properly.

Second day and everything seems great. It puts out great bass and sounds good. I use it on my PS4 to convert it to 3.5mm jack for Harmon Kardon Soundsticks III speakers that I use, which has the bass adjustment knob on the subwoofer which is perfect for finding the right amount of rumble you want for games/movies in combination with this adapter which already brings the whole sound spectrum. Headphones sound good too and retain bass, so I donโt think this adapter loses any audio signal that I can notice. All I had to do was plug it in, and make sure the PS4 was on PCM sound (default) and make the default audio output device Optical instead of HDMI.The optical cable, usb cable, and wall adapter were included. It plugs right in and I use the back USB port on the PS4 for power. The PS4 doesnโt have a master volume control so the volume knob on this is very handy. It doesnโt seem to run hot, so hopefully it lasts and I will update if it fails. The only thing more Iโd want is an included sticky pad to stick this thing down and secure it.Iโve learned I cant trust the HDMI cable for sound because monitors/TVs sometimes use subpar audio hardware, and plugging your headphones/speakers to the monitor lost a lot of bass in my case. On the other hand, optical ports should always be high quality, otherwise why would this tech exist for consumers? Well worth it if you want quality audio to your speakers without some screen as a middleman butchering the audio signal.

EDIT (2019-Feb.) : still 4 stars, but...Using an analog antenna (brand : RCA) and my TV's optical / digital output, I was finally able to confirm with LG (my tv brand) that the model I have is not able to convert the sound coming from my antenna to a digital / optical format (maybe it's just impossible). So this converter works fine when I plug my TV in a computer, but gives NO SOUND AT ALL when my TV is getting its channels with my RCA analog antenna. So if your TV signal is not optical / digital at its source (like cable TV per example) double check with your TV settings and manufacturer if you can still get sound via the TV's optical / digital output with some special settings, otherwise I would suggest not to buy this product, or to buy and try it, and then pay extra shipping fees to return it if doesn't work.Original (2019-Jan.) :Pros :- works as intended- easy to install and useCons :- (probably my TV is the problem) : can't hear any sound when watching TV using an analog antenna- to me it is a bit expensive (25$) for what it doesWill update this post once my television manufacturer answers my questions

I wanted to get a converter that would allow me to amplify the sound coming from the TV to my headphones and thought that this would do the job since it had a volume control on the converter and the description said that it would. When I set it up the volume control did increase the volume but only until the knob was turned to a quarter of the way. Setting the knob any higher had no effect on volume. I did respond to the seller and they suggested that I try another power cord other than the one that had come with the converter. I eventually found the cord to an older Kindle Fire and tried that....and it worked! So now the volume control works fine and I can get a good signal to my headphones.Customer service was very helpful and the suggested fix worked.........and they did provide a partial refund to my purchase price.HOWEVER, they were so quick to identify the problem that it led me to believe that they were aware of the problem before I contacted them, leading me to wonder: "if they were aware that the power cord wasn't adequate, why wasn't the problem resolved before continuing to sell the item?" Perhaps this issue has been taken care of with a new addition?????? Just a word to the wise!

This converter was very easy to set up and works exactly as described to get optical out sound from smart TV to older analog 3.5 mm stereo input. Nice to have the volume control. Made out of metal and feels like it will last.

My TV had run out of RCA Audio Out connections and I needed to be able to send sound to a pair of Sennheiser HDR120 wireless headphones.I had never used a toslink digital optical audio connection before, but I had an available digital optical output connection on the TV and decided to give it a try. (I had also ordered a 6-foot Amazon digital optical audio toslink cable for 5 dollars. Make sure you take the plastic shields off the ends of the toslink cable!!!) Installation of the ESYNIC digital to analog converter was very straightforward. I went into Settings-->Sound on the TV and made sure that PCM was selected. I attached the Sennheiser RCA-in cables to the ESYNIC digital to analog converter RCA-out connectors without difficulty. As expected, I needed to adjust the settings on the Sennheiser base unit a bit to optimize the connection. This tinkering took about 5 minutes. The results were spectacular. A-B comparison of the headphones sound to the sound coming from the TV speakers showed the headphones sound to be remarkably more clear, musical and lifelike. This was money well spent.Addendum: 2018 0830. The DAC Converter from ESYNIC continues its stellar performance at both locations in my house. Well done!
