Update: the first one tore within the first few days so I called Amazon. I told them I couldn't return it until all the hay was gone which would still be in the 30 day time frame. They told me they would send me a replacement and TO THROW the one I had away. SO I didThen, I kept getting emails to return it. I called Amazon explaining the situation and they said to ignore the emails because the were auto generated. Yesterday I get an email saying my card was charged $142.18 for this. I immediately called Amazon and I can't get a "real" answer. If I don't get refunded for this I will NEVER purchase from Amazon or this seller ever again. So be careful...be extremely careful. If this rips...return it no matter WHAT Amazon tells you to do. To say I'm upset is an understatement. If they can charge then they can reverse the charge. So I essentially paid for 1 twice because the first one was thrown away as I was told to do by AMAZON. .Grrrrrrrr PISSED.Original after I had just purchased: This is great, and my horses let it stand out there for a good 30 minutes until the lead horse bravely walked up to it. I guess they all thought, "what are my crazy owners up to now...lol", but after the lead horse saw it was okay then they all followed suit pretty quickly. So far no waste on hay. Hay is too expensive to waste these days, and they broke our metal round feeder by pushing on it, then purchased a net and they tore huge holes in that. I wish I would've known about this earlier. I'll update with any changes, but like I said so far it's great. By the way, I purchased the x-large and our bails are about 6ft x 5ft. Fits perfectly. Easy to put on. Great purchase. 👍 Came back to say that it's definitely a hay + $$$ saver. What my horses would normally eat within a 1 week it's now week 2 and there's still hay, so it really works. If you're on the fence about getting it...just do it because you're saving money. It rained here the other day and we went out and checked yesterday and no mold. I don't understand why people are talking about mold because it's a thick, durable screen that won't hold water.

Does Trap some moister but I have 4 horses and they eat through a round bale 4x5 in 5 days so no problems! Super sturdy! Does get muddy fast but easy to just spray off.

Straight up doesn’t work. I bought the largest size, I live in Alberta and feed large round bales. It says on the website that if your bales are taller then 4 feet the bale buddy will still work. Totally wrong, if they are taller then 4 feet the horses will simply pull it down the sides and waste hay like they normally do. On top of that the company doesn’t stand by the product with any kind of satisfaction guarantee and will not accept returns of used product. Which is ridiculous because it’s impossible to know if it will work without trying it out. So if you spent the money and try to use it without success you have a useless tarp bag that you can not send back. Customer service is terrible too. Learn from my mistake and steer clear of this product.

There was nothing holding the top closed enough other then a loose elastic.

I have used this for 2 round bales (1 month) so far. It seems to work well. I put some holes around the rim with a grommet gun and used hay string to attach a hay net to the top. So far so good! Keeps the hay dry as long as you keep it elevated out of the mud. We have had pretty wet weather this month. I'll probably buy a second one for my larger pasture.

Amazon says I should mention warmth which makes me think they have no clue what this does. But I guess my round bales of hay are nice and warm nowMy 2 geldings where eating a round bale every five days, first bale in the big bale Buddy I had 3 horses eating from it and the bale lasted 8 days. Next bale I had 2 eating from it it’s now going on 12 days and they have 2-3 days of hay still to go.I don’t have a tractor so I have my hay guy put the bales on a flat side in my truck, shimmy the cover down over the sides, push the bale out/over and lift the elastic up over the top. Not as easy as it would be to do it on a hay spike but Working alone I can have it out with the horses eating in about 15 min total.Next to no waste- I’ll see how the long term durability it but one gelding did already pick it up and run around the field with it with no harm done.***** I’ve now had this for 3 years it has 1 hole about 6” long in it which was due to catching it on a gate when rolling off the truck. It’s absolutely still usable and still has next to no waste

The info that came with the BBB says that when it rains, there are holes in the bottom of the BBB that allow it to drain and prevent hay from getting soggy and moldy. This just isn't true. After a slow, steady rain for about a day, the bottom of my BBB is a nasty soggy mess and the horses want nothing to do with it. Also, the horses continue to pull hay out and leave it on the floor rather than eating out of the top. The info that came in the package says this typically continues for a few weeks but my horses are still doing it months later. In a nutshell, I get the same use out of a bale that's wrapped as one that's naked, so pretty much a complete waste of money for me.

Does not keep rain off sides of bales, ruined bale. When you read reviews on Chronicle of the Horse that talk about how the bale rotted inside the bale buddy within a day or two...you can believe it! I'm very sad because I'd really hoped this was going to be as wonderful as advertised but I've used it exactly as pictured in the sales photo and it did not preserve the bale over a one day rain...it just molded quickly :-(
