I wouldn’t want to try to sharpen a knife with these, but for router bits and smaller plane blades they are a great solution and should be in all woodworkers sharpening kits.

I got these to hone lathe tools and Forstner bits in an attempt to extend their life. Much cheaper than replacing them. They were recommended by a couple of wood turners who I follow. I can’t really speak to their longevity because I've only just tested them on a couple of tools. But I'm happy with the job they've done so far. They arrived complete and packaged in a padded envelope.

this is my second time buying this product. I find that it is easier to sharpen blades with these than a whetstone. the whetstones take up space in the drawer and these are slimmer, plus you get four gradations so you can progress in the sharpening, by the time you get to superfine your blades are sharp. they are maneuverable enough to also put an edge on curved blades too.

These items are light, and plastic. That is good! They are not designed to put an edge on a piece of metal. They are designed to hone an edge to razor sharpness. After getting these, I took two ordinary cheap Utility razor blades (one new, one used) and sharpened them BOTH! You only think a utility blade is sharp because, by itself it is. Compared to a really sharp blade, they are blunt! I then took a cheap “gift” multi-tool and sharpened the hell out of it. These work great for what they are designed to do and are cheap enough to replace when it needs to be. But if used correctly, they should last.

I was a little skeptical about these having such a thin sanding surface. But they have great reviews and recommended by many! Definitely worth the money and are a great product! I filed on a coated steel surface for about an hour using a fine grain file with not much progress. Within minutes I was much farther along with these and they hold up great!
