But it will freeze over the top once 20° or less. I use it for a mini-foal. Fill it no more than 1/2 full, then it hasn't froze over, even when last week it was -29°F, not including Windchill. But it is in a 3 sided shed. I've been very happy with it.

This is a rugged watering bucket that has kept my animals hydrated in temperatures as low as -2*F. Securely mounted in upright position just inside the door of the barn. Very satisfied with the quality.

This bucket isn't cheap. We had one like it for our horses for years. We had it for about 3 hrs until the bullmastiff we bought it for ripped & chewed it to shreds. So, if you have a giant breed dog, buyer beware.

The heating element has a hole near it. Putting water inside will let water leak internally. Even if it will not short out the element, the water will never stay clean. I can't accept this quality...out of 6 buckets.Returned with no issues.

Straight out of the box put this thing to a harsh test. Temp was 7 degrees and dropping the previous afternoon when this was filled and placed outside. After 7+ hours at 2 or 3 degrees the water was still accessible. For those worried, the pup was inside the house. I left this just to see how well this bucket worked. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

This product is wonderful! The thickness is great which helps the warmth stay at a temp that doesn't freeze. We live in East TN with single digits at times during winter and I got this for my goats. It doesn't keep the water warm but it keeps it from freezing which was my goal. I put it at my fence with the cord going through fencing and used a double clip to fence to keep.it from moving and allowing goats to get to wires (curious animals). If you don't have that option you can put the cord in conduit to protect it. Great buy thus far (about 3 months).

Updated review. Completely stopped working after a few months. It had Worked very well when it did work but only lasted one season. Just stopped working no idea why. At the price you would think it would last more then one winter.

Its a nice size and not a pain to lug around, pretty easy to clean too.I purchased this to keep water liquid for my poultry outside over winter, It was great in fall and early spring but cannot handle a real Saskatchewan winter, that being said it was easy to dump the ice chunk out in the morning and refill it.

I liked the bucket and it worked good the first winter, did as was quoted, but went to use it this year and it would not work, was very disappointed, so cut the cord off and now I have an expensive water bucket.
