Works great with most bottles. Occasional champagne bottle has an extra large lip for the cages and can interfere a little.Tip: put a little bit of bees wax/oil mixture or lip balm on the inside of the bell housing to keep the bottle caps from sticking to the bell after pressing.

I received a very similar product but definitely not the one shown. I decided it would probably be fine but when I first used it (after the window for returns had closed) I found that it does a sub par job with crimping the caps, the caps get stuck in the bell once pressed, and the caps get scraped on the edges leaving paint and metal dust on the bell, bottles and table.Overall very disappointed to receive a sub par and probably cheaper product when another item is clearly advertised here.

I've used it to cap approximately 60 bottles so far. It works great. Definitely a step up from my last hand capping unit. But beware! They said it would be delivered on Wednesday and it didn't show up until Friday on UPS. You might say it could have been UPS, but they didn't ship for a day and a half from the time I ordered. So I'm not blaming UPS for them not shipping it out. I'm blaming them!Like I said, good unit, slow shipping/handling!

Really enjoying this capper !Fastened to a piece of scrap wood adds sturdiness and portability to cap in the kitchen or fermentation area - would be better if you actually had a 'bench' to mount to as it was designed for.Be prepared to run through a few test caps before actually capping your brew. Adjust height to about inch higher than bottle (or next slot). Pull down on handle and you should feel a lot of resistance. Continue to add pressure until you feel the handle become easier to pull an inch or two more as the capper finishes the crimping action.Tested with variable sizes of bottles with great results- finnally able to cap see through cerveza bottles that usually break with a two hand capper when pressure is applied to the neck.Well worth the price and added space the capper takes up with my brew equipment. Durability feels great and easier/safer to operate than a two handed capper. I don't expect it to fail anytime soon but if it were to I would definitely buy this brand and model again.

First time using a bottle capper. This one worked exactly as described. Easy to use and adjustable. Used it for Stubbies. 30 bottles in 10 minutes

Some of the reviews indicate issues with requiring too much force, bending the handle, getting the caps + bottle stuck, loud bang on release, etc. I experienced _some_ of that, when it happens, tiping the bottle a little bit releases it with somewhat of a "bang".Updating this review as i am disappointed on durability - after bottling my 5th 5 gallons batch, the magnet came off. I dont see a good way of repairing this... so for now I have to put the caps on the bottles before placing them under the capper.

Immediate justification for the purchase after the first use. Having used the wing capper that came with my brewing kit and finding a few unsealed caps, I knew I had to find a better solution. I determined the cause of my problems was not necessarily the capper (albeit I’m still not a fan of the wing type), but the bottles that I was trying to cap (short stubby 12 oz. bottles; think Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, or Two Roads to name a few). The neck on these types of bottles is too thick and prevents the wing type capper that I have from fully seating the bell. Admittedly, I was afraid based on some of the previous negative reviews, but thus far, this capper has surpassed expectations and I can now cap my favorite bottles!

This capper seems really solid and efficient. Previous to the Home Brew Ohio Colt Strong Bench Capper, I used an antique capper that was made in the 1930's. This Ohio Colt is superior in most ways. What I most like about it is the ease of changing the height to accommodate different height bottles. This makes the process very simple. This product will function best if it is screwed onto a wood base of either 3/4" plywood or clear redwood fencing material of appropriate thickness, width and length. It would be best to accomplish this mounting prior to attempting use.The one thing that can be improved is the handled grip. I've not checked, but believe a bicycle handle grip will slip over the existing hard plastic grip and will make the actual capping process kinder to the palm of the hand. Otherwise I endorse this product with 5 stars. As for durability, time will tell but there seems nothing flimsy about this Italian made product. One thing I think was mentioned as a negative comment in the reviews was extra pressure was required to actually complete the capping process. I did find that for the first few caps extra pressure was required but after that "break in" period the required handle pressure seemed normal.

This thing is a life saver. I had the standard hand-held capper that came with my home brewing kit, but during my last batch, it failed to cap (seemed to slip off most of the time) nearly 1/3 of my bottles; not what you want to happen after spending the time and money on a 5 gallon batch. This is obviously much more expensive, but unless you plan on kegging, I think it's a must have. I just finished another batch, and capped 50 bottles, in literally a quarter the time, without a single failure, using at least 5 different bottle styles/brands.It's built solid (felt better than the red bench capper my LHBS carried). It is top heavy, and I highly suggest mounting it to something. I bought a 2x6" piece of scrap wood at Menard's for $2, and can run this thing one-handed if I want. You can use it without mounting, but will need to hold it down. I would recommend practicing a few times with it. I initially was setting it too high, and it wasn't crimping the caps. The top should be just above the bottle, and you need to use a fair amount of force, but you'll feel the cap "give" as you pull down. Once you get the hang of it, it's great. If you've got different height bottles, you might want to separate and cap them in batches so you're not constantly adjusting the height.

This bench style bottle capper is solid. I have confidence that it will be far more dependable than my old wing style bottle capper. The Colt does a good job of capping bottles, but the user should be prepared to pull down very hard on the lever when capping.UPDATE of 11/19/2017: I mounted the capper on a solid piece of wood, and this made it much easier to cap bottles. I no longer have to pull down hard on the lever when capping. I am sure that you will get the same result if you mount the capper on a work table.
