I’ve heard good things about this tube but the one I received was microphonic. Flicking any switch on the amp caused the tube to ring until the volume was turned all the way down or the amp was shut off. I swapped the old tube back in and the problem went away.

My Fender 68 Princeton Reissue started getting very noisy, especially the reverb. I have a bunch of NOS 12AX7 tubes (but no 12at7 tubes) and found the noise resolved when I replaced the second tube from the right (looking from the back - I assume this is the reverb related tube). Case closed, I thought, but then I noticed that the tube I took out is a 12AT7 and I replaced it with a 12AX7.After consulting some experts in a guitar amps forum I learned that the 12AT7 and the 12AX7 are not interchangeable, at least not for the reverb tube. The 12AX7 will work, has a lot more gain.So I ordered one of these and a two days later my amp is sounding better than ever.

This tube was so sensitive that the least tap would cause it to run away, put old tube back in the amp I was revamping.

I bought this item for my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I love this amp but wasn't able to use it as a practice amp. Teh groove tube has now made it possible. If you have a beloved tube amp that you want to get the great tube sound on a daily basis without the arena volume, I recommend the groove tube.

Faulty. The valve whistled whenever an A note was played making it unusable

Awesome addition to my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III! I replaced the first pre-amp tube with this GT-12AT7 and now I can control the volume between 1-2 much easier. The amp still has incredible power, and the bell-like tone it is known for is even more clear. Overdrive, distortion, and fuzz pedals play nicely with this tube. The cheapest, best mod you can make to the already awesome Hot Rod amp!

The valve was purchased as a replacement for one acting as an oscillator in a piece of equipment dating from the 1950s. At first I thought that it was not a true 12AT7 replacement due to a marked difference with regard to the heaters, thinking it to be just a quiet double triode valve for use in preamplifiers. However to my surprize it was fully capable of meeting the 12AT7 specification

I needed to clean up some of the gain in my JCM800. A previous owner installed an extra preamp stage so, it was distorting from the get go. I didn't want to use the "clean" channel so, I tried the 12AT7 with it's low distortion profile. These guys really helped. I can set the amp to a cleaner tone and then use my guitar volume to pour on the gain during playing. Folks poo poo Groove Tube but, I wanted something that would at least be consistent in their production. It wasn't that much more expensive and I got exactly what I was looking for.

This is a low gain preamp tube, but my oh my does it sound good. I have it in a 1974x lite iib circuit and the cleans are as good as I've ever heard from a Marshall (-type circuit). When the amp does start to clip, there's more power tube distortion than preamp tube distortion, and the result is chills run up your spine. It's a really great sounding tube.Stiffer than the 12ay7 that I'm using now, but it does have great frequency response. Would work well in a circuit which has a tube (vs. solid state) rectifier. Strong low end and some very SRV like low end (not so much with the high end though).

bought for a pair of Epiphone Valve Jr's that had JJ EL 84's put in them. This is a lower gain structure than the 12Ax7 that they replaced. The AX7 is a gain of 100 and the 12AT7 is about 60 so it doesn't push the power tube as hard. Perfect match as there is now more clean head room before the distortion sets in just past 12 o'clock. Great combination for a terriffic little amp. These pre-amp tubes are stone cold silent as well. Highly recomended to tame a 12AX7 slot down in your pre-amp.
