We are in the process of redoing our living room which includes a fireplace and we got these to put in the fireplace. First we were impressed with the very careful packaging. We did a test on one and found it very easy to cut and did not melt as one reviewer said. So overall good quality and value.

This refractory brick is very suitable for fireplace lining, but not for forging purposes as the temperature for forging purposes exceeds 2700F

So far these are working great. We used some of them to replace broken bricks in our wood burning stove and it appears that they are working as they should be. They are a little thinner than the ones that we removed, but I now see that there are 2 different thicknesses available. We had to cut one to fit the top section of our stove and it was easy to do with a razor knife. We scored it as deep as possible, which took minimal effort, and then we were able to snap off the pieces we didn't need. We run our stove at about 600 degrees and so far, they are holding up well. I've noticed that the fire is burning more efficiently in the areas where we replaced the broken bricks and we are able to get a more even burn. These fit well in all of the areas where I needed to replace them, but I wish there was a longer size for some of my side ones that will need replaced soon. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product.

As mentioned in the title to the review, I do not have any previous experience with blocks like these. So far…they are molded reasonably well and lay flat, for the most part, some relatively small gaps here and there. I could see this being an issue for containing the heat produced. As for our use with them, this is merely assistance with ventilation, so I cannot complain as of now.We have not used them, yet, for anything over the typical heat from a basic fire. Fire pit temperature, whatever the average may be for that. So we do not currently have any comments or complaints on the usability with extreme temperatures. We held one block to open flame, directly on the flame. No burn marks visible. No cracks. Though it did appear to “melt” a corner of the block. Not a major portion was “melted” but it did reduce the shape of the corner when exposed directly to the flame.Otherwise…they’re good so far. None of them have cracked or eroded in any noticeable way. But the corner “melting” on the flame wasn’t a great sign of durability. We will see how they hold up over time. I do not see these being our long-term choice.

Very durable and easy to cut if needed. I used them to line the bottom of my high efficiency fireplace and they seem to handle the high heat of even hedge. After a month no visable wear, No cracks, splits or broken bricks yet. And reasonable price compared to the oem bricks.

They are your basic fire brick. I got these for jewelry making as they would be pretty thin for a woodstove or casting furnace, but a couple of them down on my benchtop for a base when I am using my torch are just the thing.
