I installed this in my back yard , not on a boat , As i live in a fire zone its really important for me to know from what direction the wind is coming from . This is very wind sensitive and i can tell at a glance how concerned i should be when there is a wild fire. Directions woud have been nice but i googled the product and found out the assembly details.

Looks well made at a fair price.

For the average sailor, this is so much less expensive than the competition, and is made to the same standard. It's a nice, simple design that works as it should. It probably doesn't belong on a high end race boat or a 40+ foot yacht, but for the rest of us it is great.Compared to a Davis 15, the way this mounts and can be taken apart is much better for those of us that trailer-sail or remove our masts for the winter. However, it's still just a bit of plastic and wire, a large bird can mess it up, you could do a bad job installing it, and it could come off in a storm, etc. I'd rather buy one of these every two years than give the competition (which have all the same problems) any more of my money.

I had to replace the wind indicator on my sailboat. The 5 Oceans indicator mounted easily and so far has been working well.

Great price point. Worked well on my boat. However, this is my third indicator. Broke one putting up mast and the last one (my fault) during assembly. Very fragile, thin tail end. Moderate pressure snapped the tail off. Always nervous about putting up the mast with indicator attached -so, so easy to break with the slightest tap. Put glue on the base where vanes attach-made it more secure. Thinking of reinforcing the tail with glue and balancing it to make it more durable. On the positive side, they don't cost a lot, and work well (when intact) on my sailboat. Super fast delivery,

Bought this wind vane 1.5 years ago, but only installed it six months ago when I had chance to access mast top.I only installed indicator, not directionals as I have rotating mast. And due to circumstances I have only been at sea once so not do much usage experience. That trip it worked fine. However, yesterday I noticed that actual inficator has flown away, only stick is left. Naturally I can’t andd ask use failure reason as it is 30ft high. It has only had normal wind without drive wind, so I do not think it would have been sturdy enough in heavy seas. It has not been any hurricane level winds here.I am quite disappointed.

Indicator works fine, until it disappears. I trailered my sailboat down the road 5-6 times.... about 2 miles at 30 mph. The last time I arrived back home to see that it had fallen off somewhere along the way. Apparently the aluminum shaft, which is attached to the base with two set screws was not tight from the factory. I've just received a new one and it appears to be tight. I would recommend to all buyers to check this connection and possibly put a drop of super glue on the shaft. Also, put some loctite on the set screws and tighten them up before use.

We really enjoy this, it works like a champ on our sailboat! The only thing I can think to say negatively is the lack of directions for assembling, but it is a very simple assembly, once you figure out how the metal prongs slide into the plastic piece at the top with the bolt tightened to secure it. After that, we mounted it to the top of our mast on an "L" bracket so it is easy to screw on and off each time we step our mast and then it keeps us aware of our angle to the wind and wind shifts every second of our day or weekend sailing! Fair sails, everyone!

I have been using a Windex for many years, but I don't need the extra tabs on the wires. I just need what points into the wind, so this should be fine.Broke my second Windex, want to save some money. Why pay more? It still seems like a lot of $ for such a simple

I was able to finally install this. I will note - do all of the prep assembly while on the ground before you go up the mast. Also - as a tip - use a small piece of tape to hold one lock washer on the assembly. Tape the other lock washer and nut together to make assembly at high heights much easier. One of the set screws backed out! Fortunately it was easy to find a new set screw (West Marine). But this time I added lock-tight to all three set screws and tightened them up nice and tight.I would still buy this product. I have had it up on the mast for a year, and everything looks like new. I'm impressed it held up well and I didn't lose anything.Mfg - it takes nothing to include an additional lock washer. Climbing up a mast - most people are certain to drop at least one. Better yet - glue them! to the post and nut to make assembly at that height easier!
