I've tried using float valves in my horse trough, but they were made of plastic. The horses would chew and damage them to the point where they no longer functioned. These are metal, which is much more practical and durable. I also like that they are smaller and more secure if you bolt the mount to the side of the trough.The attachment works with a standard garden hose nozzle. I haven't noticed any leaks where the hose attaches. So far, the float function has worked fine.So far, this has been a good cheap alternative. I will keep using it as it saves me a ton of trips out to the pasture to fill up the trough in the summer months.

With several different install options available, it's easy to do. I've got it installed on a water trough in the yard for the local wildlife. Has worked well for the short period I've had it installed, and the quality of it by feel, gives me hope it'll last a long time.
