I believe a lot of the negative reviews for this product is the fact that people don’t know how to do the job correctly and are trying to use this tool incorrectly, and that is the source of their frustrations .

I needed this to replace head gaskets on a Jeep 3.7l V6. The first thing I noticed when I went to install the tool was that there is a bolt head in the center of the sprocket in which this tool attaches. This bolt head doesn't allow the tool to sit far enough back to hold both chains in place and lock on the sprocket. I had to drill a 3/4" hole in the center of the tool's plate to accommodate the bolt head. That was the largest bit I had on hand, but it worked. I think the hole should be larger though, maybe 7/8" - 1" would be better. After the modification I made the tool worked great and I didn't have to worry about the timing chain falling off the lower sprocket and messing up the timing.

Expensive for what it is, but worked perfectly. I was replacing a cylinder head on a 4.7 v8 on a jeep commander. This is an overhead cam engine. This kept the chain from falling off the gear and keeping the chain lined up perfectly. This tool is a couple bucks cheaper than the OTC equivalent and it's the exact same. 10/10 would recommend.Only 4 out of 5 because it's expensive for what it really is

This tool worked great AFTER I used a plasma torch to cut out a hole for the center bolt and the nose of the crankshaft. If you're only trying to hold the chains in place to removes the head(s) this tool will require fabrication unless you're removing the main timing gear and chain. This is a major design flaw that could have been easily mediated with a hole in the center or longer pins and a longer top locking rod.

works great holds chains in place so heads can be pulled off without having to reset the timing , great product.

Will not lock unless the center bolt is removed from the gear, not a problem but not really mentioned in OEM work instructions. Not the tools fault.Pins need bent a little bit to fit. To be expected as the pins are long and can easily get bent while in transit or in a toolbox. A protective formed box would solve this, tool would be twice the cost...I'll bend the pins if I have to.Was going to give 3 stars until I started writing and realized the issues were not any fault of the tool, manufacturer, or seller.
