  • Communication between lens & camera enables auto focus, auto iris & image stabilization
  • A maximum aperture of f/4 or greater is required in order to fully utilize the autofocus capabilities.
  • AF will only work properly if there is enough light and contrast on the subject to activate the camera's AF sensors. Manual focusing is recommended when using lenses with a smaller f-stop value.
  • Limited 2-Year Manufacturer Warranty

The Fotodiox 2x Teleconverter for Canon cameras is a precision optical component designed to expand your photographic capabilities. This premium quality 2x teleconverter, effectively doubles the focal length of the lens it's used with and maintains the resolution and contrast of any fine optic. The teleconverter will multiply the focal length of the existing lens by 2x, and will cut back the amount of light by 2 f/stops. For example, using a 2x teleconverter with a 300 mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 600 mm and a lens set to f/4 will now be f/8. A maximum aperture of f/4 or greater is required in order to fully utilize the autofocus capabilities. Please be aware that AF will work properly only if there is enough light and contrast on the subject to activate the camera's AF sensors. Manual focusing is recommended when using lenses with a smaller open f-stop value than those given above.

The image quality is great and it is easy to put on however like some said the pin is placed in the wrong spit because the autofocus doesn't work if it is locked. What i do is unlock it slightly and then test the autofocus. I keep making slight turns until the autofocus starts working. After that everything works great. An example of the autofocus function results through it is attached to this review. It isn’t perfect but darn close though in fairness using autofocus on the sun isn’t going to get it perfect in any event no matter what hardware i use. Still i think it did do an excellent job. Definitely a good value for the money.

Optically good. However, autofocus does not work with any Canon-mount lens I have tried - Canon 50mm f/1.8, Tamron 85mm f/1.8, Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4 and several others. Another major issue is that EF-S lenses do not fit at all - tried Canon 10-18, Canon 18-55, Canon 55-250. With EF lenses, using manual focus, high resolving power and relative absence of chromatic aberration make this a good performer optically.

Ordered this Canon EF/EFS 2x Teleconverter because I couldn't justify paying for a Canon brand version. Ummm... not gonna lie, for me it really sucked.I received it 11-14-2019. Pulled it out of the packaging then installed it on my Canon T7i with a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 is II USM Lens. This lens is great with nice sharp images at 300mm.Instantly I was aware that autofocus did not work even with plenty of light. It just kept going back and forth without confirming or acquiring focus. No biggy there, although I was hoping AF might function. That would have nice. Mounted the camera to a tripod and took a few photos of the same object with and without the adapter. It was clear that the images taken through the adapter were NOT "clear" and well... pretty much sucked. Images were not sharp and nothing was sharp anywhere. You could tell when focusing manually that there was no point of sharpness, just blurry, less blurry, then blurry. 10 minutes after unboxing it I clicked the button in my orders to return it. I'm not really sure how and why this adapter made it to be manufactured. Perhaps I have a terrible copy or it may work with other lenses better??? I don't know, I didn't try because the outcome was so poor for me I don't think it would have mattered.

This is a good product. It works as per my expectation. Now, my 250 mm lens becomes 500 mm lens and picture quality is also acceptable. It works with my canon kit lenses, 50 mm prime lens and Tamron lens also. Build quality of the product is also good.I will recommend it for photographers who want high range telephoto lens but money is limiting them.I received this within 5 days from USA with all clearances using Global priority delivery service. Its really a good service by Amazon and seller.

I received this fotodiox 2x converter today and I tried to test it with my canon 50mm Lens mounted on canon 7D. I was very disappointed that the Fotodiox converter is Not focusing properly. It won't focus automatically. The only way you can focus is to Manually focus the lens itself...very disappointing.

I think it's great if you need it for still images like moon and astrophotography. I used it with my canon T6s and the new 55-250 mm lens and got a Great result with Moon photos. The image was still was sharp as you can see here. The image was cropped but never enhanced in lightroom, so if you enhance it it might look sharper than that. It's a great purchase if you want good quality astrophotography and you're on low budget. I paid $100 for it, probably a price of $65 - 70$ would be more reasonable.I gave it 4 stars because the autofocus doesn't work as advertised (kept going back and forth and never focused) and the mounting is not very smooth. Otherwise it's a great teleconverter.Image capture settings: 250 mm (x2 -> 500 mm), f/8, 1/80s. ISO 100

I just got this converter last night and it came in a little cardboard box with out any manual or instruction, not that it should as it should be plug and play. so I connected it to my (older) Canon rebel XTI and a 35-400 mm telephoto lens and it first gave me and error it would not communicate, so I checked to make sure it was locked down and then re-set the lens and felt a little movement once it locked down and then it seems to have set and locks in place now. I tried to take a picture in auto but it will not focus. The motor comes on and turns the focus but it will set the focus properly and stays out of focus, I took the converter off and tested the lens by it's self and it works fine. so I tried again and still it doesn't focus. I took pictures last night of the moon and the lens it was a bit out of focus so I need to practice some tonight. I must say I'm a bit disappointed that it does auto focus. But i'll play with it some more this weekend and see how it goes.********************************Well, I'm really disappointed with this product, I took a picture of the far away building under good light and clear day, and then took it again with the converter removed. I compared the two and the image is bigger X2 but it is not clear , the picture with the lens only i could zoom in to the same size and it was clearer. So it appears whatever benefit I gained in distance was lost in quality. Very disappointing. I have added 2 pictures taken seconds apart, the first was with the X2 converter focused as best I could though the view finder ( set on infinity as it was far away) and the second was with the same lens in autofocus with out the converter and I zoom in with picture viewer and a about the same size and as a matter of fact I think I got closer up and the picture has more clarity. I'm very disappointed. I will try 1 last time with the tripod and different focus points but not having the autofocus functioning properly is a pain.

For getting those distant small depth-of-field shots (with the background beautifully blurred), this is a good alternative (for me) to an expensive longer/prime lens. With manual focus, and a tripod (or some other way of stabilizing the camera), it works well.I knew the limitations before I bought, thanks to other reviews, and can work around it. If I really need a dedicated longer lens, I will spend the (lots of) extra money. Don't expect anything like a prime lens (which will focus fast and be sharper), but it's a nifty thing to pack in a bag for some trips.Limitations: You do lose 2-3 stops of light, autofocus often does not work (in very bright light, it works), a tripod is almost a must (I get away without using it sometimes, and the picture is sharp enough).
