The short stem allows you to measure temperature of oil in a normal fry pan for frying. Works well for price.

Fox Run Candy Thermometer worked well and seems to be accurate when tested against our existing thermometers (which are hopefully accurate). But at least accurate enough for our purposes. The thermometer is easy to use and read, so we are pleased with this addition to the kitchen.

Temperature numbers so hard to read!! Should have looked more closely. The numbers are in increments of 50 which makes it hard to read. And they are also very small. Darn.

I have mixed feelings about this candy thermometer. YES, it delivers as described. However, I wish the clip were thinner. I have enough trouble viewing the numbers on the side to see my temperature! It seems like they have room to make the number bigger, because it's a nice, large thermometer. The clip is GREAT - that is, the fact that someone thought to place a clip on a thermometer! However, it is also problematic because it's placement blocks me from reading the already tiny numbers! If I'd have had a chance to see how I would have to use it, I wouldn't have gotten it.HOWEVER - it may be PERFECT for a basic candy making saucepan.I am using it for liquids in small amounts, in a1.5 cup saucepan. I believe it was meant for a larger, more conventional usage. Still, it's difficult for me to see the numbers! Please improve your interesting design!
