A lot of competing products will often just have an edge coating or carbide strip, but these do not. Their factory grind was quite sharp and precise on the ones that I received. Popped them into a cordless planer and they worked quite well. While I cannot give you an estimate on their longevity due to the brief times I have used them, when they were used they did precise, even work. In this value set, I would say it is worth consideration as a consumable.

It's my first time using the full tang blades like this, was using the mini-blades before, and I like them a lot. Much more easy to control and accurate, good sharpness and more durable than the mini ones. If you've never used these, it's a small learning curve assembling them, I have a bad habit of not looking at instructions, but it's not hard to figure out just hard to get just right. I put them on just loose enough to slide and the rolled them backwards in the planer so they slid just below the lip. Then I rolled them back up and tightened. Worked like a charm, my "1/64" now actually means what it says finally.

Description states these fit Ryobi handheld planers. They do Not! I bought two pacs of these blades to go with the Ryobi hand planer as a Christmas gift. After opening the blades to replace the blade in the planer it was discovered that these blades are enormous compared to the little sliver blades actually in the planer. Too late to be able to return. Buyer beware, know what blades you need and what they look like before buying new blades.Update: The seller reached out to me to and went the extra mile to send the correct blades. I have never had a seller go out of their way to make sure a customer got the correct item before. This is a AAA seller for sure. And no, I was not paid to say this or recompensed in any way to improve my review. This is my honest update for a true honest seller.

I was very impressed by these blades after having purchased some other blades that were plain steel with narrow carbide strips for the cutting edge. On those blades the edges looked hand-ground and wavy, including corners that were rounded. They were garbage, possibly unsafe due to brazing voids, and in the end totally unusable.I placed two of these blades edge-to-edge on a light table and they looked good - no straightness variations that I could see on the cutting edges. They are working really well on the Makita planer and if I can avoid hitting any metal I hope that they will last a very long time, since I do tend to occasionally edge MDF which is rough on the original HSS blades. At least with two pairs I can always have a freshly sharpened set to install if I should get a nick or if they get dull. The set of four that I received looks great, with all blades very precisely sharpened. Seems like an excellent value.

I have had my Makita cordless planer for a few years now. Up until recently it was used "occasionally", but over the last 4 months it has not left my truck. I do general home repairs and all of a sudden I have been getting a ton of doors that need to be trimmed because they won't close, or they are tight in the jamb. The big problem with this is that most of the doors are painted, paint and planner blades are not friends. I ordered this set of blades as a backup for when the original blades got dull but decided not to wait. Changing the blades was simple as long as you take your time. Make sure to clean all dust and debris from are surfaces the blades rest on. You can use air to clean but keep the pressure low so you don't blow any parts away. The blades are sharp enough to cut so use caution when handling them. Just a note: remember to place the blades edge "bevel side out" and do not over torque the retaining nuts. Also make sure the blades are level, most planers come with a little plate you use to keep the blades where they need to be as you tighten the nuts. These blades cut very nice, and I look forward to seeing how long they hold their sharpness. If nothing else, you may want to keep a set with your planer.
