I use this meter to calibrate speaker levels. Works great and as expected right out of the packaging. It would be even better with a backlight and carry case however.

The CM140 works well. Use the range button to make sure you are actually recording the highest range (sound volume). If you are near the top end of a volume range, try switching to the next level on the range button to make sure you are capturing the true volume levels. We play in a country, classic rock band and we use it all gigs and practices. We keep a close eye (really ear) on the sound levels, especially in smaller venues. the customers, staff and owners really appreciate it. And so do the band members ears.

A good meter for the money, but I found that it read around 10 dB higher than the two professional NTi meters my company uses. I ad-hoc calibrated it against those easily enough, but it's disturbing that it would read so far off right out of the box. I would also prefer that it hold the user settings after it's turned off and back on, but that's a minor complaint because there are so few settings.

Awesome. Very accurate. I use this for checking FOH levels when I'm behind the sound desk, or when setting up floor monitors with my band.

The Galaxy Audio CM-140 has the most accurate result across all my SPL meters. Its time weightings fast & slow and a frequency range from 31.5Hz to 8KHz are helpful for home theatre system calibration. If you are looking for a cheaper but slightly lesser accuracy, then probably Mini Digital Sound Level Meter will give a you a value for money purchase.Link to Mini Digital Sound Level Meterhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001THX3M0?ie=UTF8&camp=213733&creative=393185&creativeASIN=B001THX3M0&linkCode=shr&tag=swiclu-20&qid=1402745154&sr=8-4&keywords=spl+meter

I still use the old school method of setting up my speaker distances in my home theater using a SPL meter. I had to retire my tried and true radio shack meter SPL meter which no longer worked :-( I did a lot of research and everything I read about this meter was positive. Made the plunge and it has performed flawlessly for me ever since :-).

I like this meter a lot. It's easy to use and easy to understand. The reason it's better than a cheap one is because it measures low sound pressure levels. It is rated down to 40db and it will read levels even below that.

Easy to use, does the job. Just perfect for what it is. Look for online reviews, this is a much better meter than the radioshack meter. Very useful for setting up your own channel levels to setup your speakers.
