I had a steering problem where I could only turn in one direction. I found this replacement gear and opted to try to repair the problem myself. This gear worked well. The old gear came off suprisingly easy and this fit perfectly back in place. Tightened it down and my mower was back up & running - turning, actually.

Good OEM replacement, nice fit fast shipping. Trick to installing bushing is 1) lift steering shaft up from steering wheel, then from the "underside of the tractor", insert finger up into the steering shaft bracket where the bushing rests and have a helper to drop the bushing onto your finger, slowly lower finger until bushing rests in its fitted location, then lower steering shaft so it just appears coming through bushing (again all from underside of tractor), once shaft is visible underneath just above the main steering gear plate, insert the washer, then lower shaft completely. Insert gear and secure nut to lock shaft in place. Washer must be installed with steering shaft just above the main steering gear plate and proper washer location is "above shaft gear" NOT between shaft gear and nut.

My trusty 18-year-old TroyBilt Horse ride-on mower seems to get through its steering quadrant every two to three years. The teeth wear out, usually on the far ends, ie. at full lock, where the steering forces are higher. It's a PITA to replace and being old and rough, I've cut away plastic and steel on the mower to make it easier to access the bolt.I always order a new gear and bush, as once I'm in there, I might as well replace both. I have quite a selection of gears now as, interestingly, the steel quadrant teeth seem to fail, but the sintered bronze (?) gear teeth seem in much better condition, showing just a little wear.Either way, I recommend you get this just in case. It fits, it works, has good ratings and it's not a bad price at just over $7. You can find cheaper, but you gets what you pay for!

the gear was perfect but the flange was not thick enough, ordered the thicker one and working fine now
