I returned this for the Captain size. Overall it seems like a well built knife. Liner locks on both the blade and spike. If you're looking for something to carry a lot it would be good as it's also compact and not too heavy. I did think for wet rope work I want something a bit more beefy for improved control. If this was the only option, I would have been happy with it.

The knife I got was bone handled — but it wasn’t this knife. It came in a very attractive box - but it wasn’t this knife.Instead, I got a very nice fixed blade, bone handled knife with a sheath and a separate fid.It was a very large knife — and it wasn’t this knife. On top of that, the handle looked dirty but was actually abraded or damaged.

This knife is clearly displayed as a folding knife and marlin spike combination, however it is being shipped as a combined fixed blade knife and separate marlin spike with a leather sheath. There is either a bad database pointer for the product image, a bad SKU/product ID number, or both.

I'm not an expert on knives, however having use this knife and knowing myself... Over time it holds its edge well. I've only had to sharpen it a few times and I am abusive to a edge. I use a knife like a tool and try to cut, score, and scrape everything regardless of material. My only critique with it is with a liner lock for the marlin-spike; if used with leverage to undo knots the wrong direction it will collapse. Also, thinking about the bomber of destroyed ratchet straps, because of a knot worth it.

This is a very solid tool. The Bone handles are well fitted and adds to the overall feel in your hand.

Honestly surprised by the quality. easy one hand opening and closing once you get used to the lock. I wouldn't torque the marlinspike too much. It's a small knife and little clunky in the pocket. Pocket clip is excellent and won't trash your pants. Holds a good edge.

Great knife, sharp as all get out but the ring for the lanyard was too cheap. It snapped off the first time it got hung up on something, which didn't take very long.

I carry this knife everyday. Actually I'm on #4, lost the previous 3. Gen-2 is a much better design. I recommend the standard edge. As an earlier reviewer stated the loop can be yanked out, but pliars can be used to resolve the issue. The truth is if I have a lanyard attached it would be a good point of failure versus something that would allow me to get hung up in a dangerous situation... I love Myerchin products, you will too...
