The assembly documentation guides you step by step through the installation process. The unit is easy to connect with the rod and secure on the wall. Programming is not really intuitive but with the instruction pretty doable. Also programming the included remote control to other garage door systems is not always working. And at the end:If you have a lot of noise when opening/closing you might need to replace the rollers, which I had to do. Warning: never replace the bottom roll without the door in full up-position!!!

At first I really enjoyed this door opener. We'll, that was after I was able to get it installed. It lasted just over a year and a half and then the PLASTIC drive shaft broke and the door dropped. In fairness a cat ran under and caused the unit to stop suddenly. How is this not a safety recall? I was able to contact customer service through chat and now I have to call in to arrange payment forshipping of the new plastic drive shaft. Then maybe if I sit it close to the unit it will just fix itself. So now I have to pay several hundred dollars to get someone to come out and remove the unit to they can put a new drive shaft in it. Wonder how long this process will take and them how long this piece will last. Customer service is a nightmare. They drop calls, don't call you back and even worse they are from overseas and hard to understand. Still trying to get the part on order. In the mean time, I look forward to manually opening and closing the garage door and then walking around to lock it so that I can secure my house. Way to go genie. Should have gone with the overhead door company.

The installation process was easy! Set up was 1-2-3 following easy to understand directions. I ordered a separate kit with a second mounting bracket more as preventative maintenance. And battery back up was put to test when hurricane Milton arrived 4 days later!

I have a roll up door that this fits onto, and if you do too this is way better than a chain drive overhead model. It’s just a light little box in the corner and it is mostly silent. It even is short enough to fit over an entry door which is the only space it will fit. It has a quality feel to the parts, it isn’t cheaply built. Not sure why some say the install needs to be by a professional. Sure it takes some fiddling, and the programming instructions, even with the video took a few tries, but it is actually easier to put up alone than a big overhead unit. I don’t think the door is especially slow either, it’s quite an adequate speed. I like the light that can go anywhere and stays on when unloading at night, and the wireless opening button is also good for locating it. I haven’t yet needed the backup battery but power goes out regularly here so I’m glad to have it. The only thing Genie could fix is the feel of the button on the car remote. It doesn’t have a detent so it doesn’t feel like you pressed anything. It’s a “squeezing a rubber puck” feeling. I’m used to it now, and I just squeeze the puck once and trust that it works, and it has every time. I’ll buy another one of these Genies for my other door if I ever need one.
