I’m relatively new to bass guitar. Been playing regular for almost 30 years. In the last year I’ve tried roundwounds, various flatwounds, and even pressure wound strings. The GHS brite flats are my favorite. Mainly it’s about the feel for me. I play fingerstyle almost exclusively and these strings are grippy enough for my playing style, but don’t have all the fret noise the rounds do. I highly recommend!

These are definitely unique, and not for everybody. The finger feel is weird, especially when they’re new. Not smooth like true flats, but “grippy” in a way that roundwounds AREN’T. But the SOUND is truly wonderful! I have these on a Stingray Classic and the pick tone is beautifully musical, while the fingerstyle tone is bright and clear without losing “thump”. Great trivia - these are actually the same strings Bernard Edwards (Chic) used on his Stingray and NEVER CHANGED - one set for his whole career with that bass! This isn’t easy to research, but it can be done and the evidence is pretty conclusive. He played slap style with them too - that’s some impressive versatility!

These really are good strings, but, like all strings, it's a personal preference thing. I felt like their tone is definitely and noticeably brighter than most flat wound strings. However, since they are technically ground wound and not flat wound, the finger feel is substantially different than flats -- which is to say, they're still kinda rough on the finger tips and don't give you those nice noiseless slides that flats will. My take is this: If you're coming from mostly playing round wounds and you're looking for something in the neighborhood of flats without losing lots'o'brightness, these are definitely worth your while, BUT if you're coming from flats and looking an extra bit'o'brightness maybe try something like D'Addario Chromes which seem (in my opinion) to be the brightest sounding of the flats out there.
