Our Story

Golight is a privately held manufacturing company nestled in the heartland of the United States. In December of 92, the idea of the remote control spotlight was born. After many engineering drawings, tooling refinements, and prototypes, the first Golight was available for sale in the summer of 94.

You can read the specs. The power needed is 3.5 amps, so it's less than 50 watts and super-bright LEDs. This is not a cheap search light but if you have ever ventured into a campground after dark and couldn't find your site or couldn't clearly see obstacles, you will love this device. The light is about 7" tall. If the front cap is the tallest feature on your vehicle (that is, it's above your ACs and any antennas), then this will add 7" to your maximum height, which you will need to know for avoiding low bridges, etc. These (or similar) used to be an optional accessory on motorhomes but you don't see them much anymore. I don't know why other than the height issue. The installation instructions are clear. You need a flat surface on the motorhome's front cap and you will need to climb up there. A helper is recommended to hold the ladder if you don't have one on the back of your RV. Climbing up the ladder will be the most dangerous part. You will need a flat surface in order to mount it. The closer to the front of the vehicle, the lower the search light can be pointed with the remote control. You will need a snake. An untwisted coat hanger may work in a pinch. You need to find a power source for the light. If you have easy access to the front cap area in your coach, that may work. If that's not easy, access the power from the back of the center marker light above the windshield. Remove that light fixture and you should have a decent hole behind it. Take a Sharpie, battery powered drill, a 5/64" drill bit (or 2 mm), a 3/8-1/2" drill bit, some non-leveling Dicor sealant for your roof type, a long, Philips screw driver (used as a probe), the snake, a screw driver with a #2 Philips head, some electrical tape, wire cutters, wire nuts, wire splices and taps and a multimeter. Extend the length of the wires on the light by about 30". If you have red-insulated wire, place it on the positive lead. Use some other color for the negative. Place the bracket in the midline of the cap, as far forward as practical and as long as the surface is flat. Use the Sharpie to mark the 4 screw holes used for the sheet the large sheet metal screws on the cap. Mark the center of the larger circle in the bracket with the Sharpie. Drill the 4 5/64" holes and then the 3/8-1/2" hole in the center. I put a dab of Dicor on each little hole. They advise against applying a sealant around the gasket itself. I only used it for the screw holes. Then I apply the gasket and the bracket on top of it. I insert all 4 sheet metal screws. It's probably best not to use an electric drill to power the screws in. Make sure that the snake and any wires attached to it will fit through the center hole. Make sure that your headlights are off during this process! Advance your snake through the center hole and towards the removed marker light hole. If you managed to easily get the snake through, you pull the snake out and attach the 2 power wires to the snake. If getting the snake through was difficult, you can tie some string to the end of the snake, pull the snake out and then attach the power wires to the string and pull it out of the marker light hole. You need to determine the polarity of the wires to the marker light. Often, the positive wire will be white, not red. In my coach, the negative was green. If you apply a quick tap, you can put the meter's leads on the metal connectors to check on the polarity. Depending on the hole opening and how much wire you have to the marker light, that will determine the best connection method. Once you've figured that out and connected the wiring, it's time to secure the light to the bracket. First, feet the excess wires into the big hole leaving about 3-4 inches of play. Fill the wiring hole with the Dicor. The wiring will tend to push the Dicor in, so make sure you use enough of the Dicor. The front of the light has an arrow on its base. It should be installed with that forward. Set the light on the bracket. The holes for the 4 small screws may be difficult to find because the base is black. Use your cellphone's flashlight to find them. Insert all 4 screws and tighten them down. When you turn on your headlights, the marker lights should be powered. Test the search light with the remote. If you changed its code, follow the instructions on pairing. If the light works, re-install the marker light. Retest the search light again since you moved the wires on the marker light. If you changed the remote code and the light doesn't work, you didn't pair it correctly. The lens on the search light, being so high, will be difficult to clean. When traveling, I turn the search light 90 degrees so that the side faces front and only that side will be impacted by bugs. You are finished. I knew you could do it! Good job!
