Install today, works great. Good water flow. I installed mine on the outtake side of my sea strainer for my engine. I put a 1" one way valve in the line. Works fantastic.

The bib at the bottom for connecting to a hose is made of a cheap plastic that is so thin that it easily broke from the pressure of a hose clamp tightened only enough to keep the hose from slipping off. Also, there are no ridges on the bib, which makes it difficult to keep a hose firmly connected. The internal parts are otherwise reliable as this unit has been marketed by Whale for many years. Too bad that they skimped on the most basic of design requirements, making this an otherwise poor choice, particularly for use on a sailboat where not infrequently the hose connection might be below the waterline, which would lead to an emergency due to unrestricted water entry into the boat if and when the hose connection breaks!

The install was difficult because of two things.First was my bad. The countertop was not perfectly flat.Secondly, the bottom of the pump is not flat. I ended up grinding some of the plastic on bottom of pump, which made it better. I then added sealant to fill in low spots. All works fine but, it really should be a flat bottom with a thick gasket, IMO.Pump works great, lots of suction to lift salt water, no hesitation!

I had the same model of the Whale pump for 15 years or so and it worked fine. Then it started leaking water from the base. So I bought a new version of the same Whale design. It worked for about 8 months, then started leaking. I examined the base and found a crack. Use of a sealant did not help. I had lost the receipt for that one, so, foolishly, I bought yet another. That started to leak from the base within a couple months. No crack visible; water issued from a couple of the screws on the base. What's going on? It's an expensive piece of hardware and should last longer. I'll try to return it.

I had a stock factory pump in the galley of my Catalina 30 that needed priming every time we came to the boat. I had one of these in the head and it always worked perfectly. I took a gamble that it wasn't an air leak or bad hose and replaced the pump in the galley. It pumps a nice stream of water and works every time. Expensive but worth it.

To replace the 45 year old Flipper Pump hat I thought had lost suction. Turned out air was infiltrating the supply tube where the old pump and tube meet. I could have returned the new pump but it worked so well and looked so good I just kept it.

Exact replacement for the original that was in my 83 Catalina 25. Works great, easy install, for the people in the other reviews that say it cracked or leaks... most likely it’s user error, you only need to hand tighten the lock ring.. no need to over tighten it. That’s probably how they cracked their.. couldn’t be more happy with this new faucet for my Catalina.
