My mechanic will install this aluminum radiator next week. However, I will comment on packaging and product appearance because the latter is impressive. First, the radiator is professionally boxed with 3/4 inch cardboard "plates" holding it safely in place with no worries of it being struck by something sharp in transit. Whoever closed the box could have been a bit more liberal with the tape. Two of the three pieces across the seam were split open. But the third one held the box closed well enough; there was no damage or any signs of rough treatment in transport. Second, inside the box, the radiator is wrapped in heavy see-through plastic. I didn't want to remove it before it reaches my mechanic, but I could see enough to make me believe this is a very high quality part -- far less expensive than you might expect by the appearance. The welds are straight and consistent and minimal. If this functions as advertised, I'll never need to replace another radiator. I replaced the original plastic radiator three times with the same result, the upper radiator inlet cracked and caused the system to be breached and the car immobilized. There's no justification for BMW installing a plastic radiator; this is a critical part that could have life and death consequences. When the car overheats, the build-up of steam causes an explosion that spews out blinding steam and immediately shuts the car down. Think about being on a six-lane highway in rush hour. After a few thousand miles, I'll report on the functionality. I'm replacing the entire cooling system with the radiator as the centerpiece.

Solid construction, so far no leaks. I had one issue when mounting the fan shroud that goes on the radiator, because of the excessive weld, the shroud will not fit all the way down in place therefore the mounting holes will not line up with the threaded holes in the radiator, so I had to cut and modify the two ears at the bottom of the plastic shroud to be able to fit it in place and for the holes to align. Also a pair of bolts will be a nice addition since the original plastic radiator uses plastic push-pins to secure the shroud they cannot be used with this all aluminum upgrade, luckily for me I had a pair of bolts the correct size for my installation.
