I purchased a set to put on a Yamaha FGC-TA TransAcoustic guitar and couldn't be happier. I'm a stickler for getting good intonation on the acoustic guitar, especially since I play a lot of chord shapes up high on the fret board, with some of the notes on open strings. Therefore, I'm always fine tweaking a little flat or sharp (I'm talking a few cents), and with traditional and even modern locking tuners it can still be a pain to get the strings where I need them without spending too much time and effort doing so. Ratio tuners are so smooth that it's just a breeze getting each string exactly where I need it.I was genuinely concerned about being able to just simply swap them with the set that came with my Yamaha acoustic, but they fit without the need to change the hole size or change any screw locations. The brushed aluminum mounting plates that come with the set do have quite a different shade of color than the tuners themselves, but for me that's no issue since they're usually unseen since they're on the back. However, you can order InvisoMatch "premium" mounting plates from Graphtech or other dealers that will more closely match what you're looking for, and that's actually something I'm interested in down the road, especially the gold and black ones that look amazing. It's also worth looking on the market for the different colored Ratio tuners or the variations of modern vs vintage style or open back--they even sell them for bass and ukelele. The aluminum mounting plates that come with the set will fit a large majority of guitars without any need to modify the installation. I can see potential issues with some non-traditional guitar designs or custom head stocks, but the vast majority of guitars in the market will be represented by one of the many sets of mounting plate designs that come in the Ratio package. Even so, you should investigate whether or not this might be a concern given what type/model guitar you have.As someone that can easily get frustrated, and I tended to with traditional tuners, I've not once been frustrated during the process of installation or usage of these Ratio tuners. I intend to replace the tuners on all of my acoustic and electric guitars with Ratio tuners. I'd already tried a Fender locking set and 2 PRS locking sets, and they work just fine, but the finesse you can do when making slight adjustments with the Ratio tuners is unparalleled.**Of special note, if you have a hand injury like nerve damage at the wrist or pain when using your index finger and thumb together, turning some tuners can really aggravate your pain--this would happen frequently for me and would increase the chronic pain I have. Not with Ratio tuners. I can't emphasize how much easier it is for me to turn these babies, it's so buttery smooth, like when a guitar neck just fits your hand perfectly, they feel just right. These things were made for me, and if you have hand pain, I promise you won't regret them.

loving how you each tuner is ratio'ed to where each turn shifts the tuning identically between all 6 strings!

I've had locking tuners on one of my guitars for years and if anything is going to come from the factory standard on something nice, it should be locking tuners, full stop.I bought these to swap out the garbage tuners on a chibson i took on a trade. I had already replaced the electronics with EMG's "Het set", but the tuners were unusable and the guitar just sat.Sat down to install these, and sadly they were not drop in. I had to drill the holes out larger to get them in, and the whole process was touch and go. I didn't care that it took a small chunk out of the front of the headstock at the tuners location while drilling, because its a freaking chibson. but be warned and be careful if you have to do that. maybe have some drilling skills better than me. don't drill on your prized axe.anyways, it all worked out. the tuners are pretty fantastic and the guitar is changed 100 and 10 percent. I love that they're specific ratios for each string, making tuning so much quicker...it went from unplayable to something that I could easily see picking up a whole lot more in the future. tuners have everything you need to install them in the package. I'd say they're drop in as long as you don't play a knock off.buy these tuners for your axe!

Purchased these to upgrade my Epiphone Les Paul Custom (Silverburst). Easy to install, provides greater tuning stability, and adds a nice touch to an already good looking guitar. The gear ratios are tuned to each string position so that every string responds the same to any tuning adjustment. You get fine tuning on the thicker core strings and coarser tuning on the thinner core; anywhere from 12:1 to 39:1 gear ratio. With these Ratio Tuners, one turn is about one tone change on all strings, making tuning, retuning and open tunings easier, quicker and more intuitive. Will be purchasing additional sets for guitars in my collection that do not have locking tuners.

I’ve tried these tuners a few times, unfortunately every time the universal plates don’t work with the guitar I was working on. They do seem well made, but haven’t worked for the hole pattern on some Gibsons.

These tuners are amazing! I installed on a Gretsch Electromatic G5230 with a Bigsby and a new Graphtech Tusq XL nut, and the guitar holds tune so much better than stock parts. These tuners were larger in diameter than the stock tuners, so I had to bore out the headstock holes to fit, but still the whole install process was less than 45 minutes.Graphtech includes mounting plates with these tuners, but be aware these are dull, unfinished aluminum parts. For $10, I ordered Chrome nickel directly from Graphtech, and they arrived in about a week, having to come from Canada. It's too bad that these items aren't available from Amazon, somebody there should fix that. The tuning aspect of these machines take just a bit to get used to, but once you do, you'll love them! They are geared so that each string on the guitar takes about the same amount of turn to get to pitch, regardless of string gauge. What a brilliant concept! Makes stage tuning so much faster and intuitive, I can't believe this is the first company to patent this idea! Hats off to Graph Tech! An absolutely brilliant idea, and flawlessly executed!I went with the classic style buttons in chrome nickel, and they are beautiful! Very durable plate, and the finish is perfect. The action is very smooth, with just the right amount of resistance, making finding tune so much easier than a single ratio tuner.I will definitely be buying more of these for my other babies.....
