For finishing, detailed woodworking, and fastening of delicate, thin, and small wood pieces without splitting, the Grex P635 Headless Pinner makes the process of pinning easy. This innovative tool accommodates long pins up to 1-3/8 inches for a strong hold, and the magazine self-adjusts to different fastener sizes, so you'll never need to make any adjustments for pin lengths. Powerful enough to penetrate hardwoods, the P635 works securely with a built-in double-trigger safety.

Award-Winning Power and Versatility
Ideal for detailed woodworking and finish work, the P635 gives you the flexibility and power you need to tackle a host of pinning jobs. Equipped with an industrial-strength motor, this pinner easily penetrates hardwoods such as oak and beech. And even with its high-power performance, the P635 allows for fastening of delicate, thin, and small wood pieces without splitting--something that's simply not possible with larger fasteners.

The magazine auto-adjusts to the different fastener sizes, quickly pushing pins to the necessary position. Unlike old-style pinners, the P635 does not require you to make any adjustments for the pin lengths; it's an easy load-and-go tool for quick, convenient, and trouble-free loading and reloading.

The pinner's broad fastener range accepts pins from 3/8 inch to 1-3/8 inches in length--nine different sizes--making it the perfect go-to gun. Plus, the P635's fastener capacity is one strip (approximately 100 pins), letting you work with little interruption.

For its innovative features, the P635 has been named one of the "Best New Tools" in the December 2005 issue of Popular Woodworking and the "Best Bet" of headless pinners in the April 2007 issue of Woodworker's Journal. The P635 has also been listed in Taunton's Tool Guide as the "Readers' Choice" two years in a row (2008 and 2009).

Lightweight Body with Narrow Nose for Easy Maneuvering
Weighing only 2.21 pounds, the P635 keeps you working comfortably when you're performing extended or overhead pinning jobs. And with its narrow nose and short length (less than eight inches), this pinner is perfect for accessing tight spaces, and the rear cut-away magazine helps the tool reach into corners.

If you frequently perform detailed trim work, this pinner's compact design gives you the control and flexibility you need to create an attractive finished product. And for jam clearing, the P635's removable nose cover provides easy access. The hex key to remove the nose cover is conveneiently stored on the rear of the magazine.

No-Mar Tip and Safety Trigger Provide Clean, Safe Performance
If you want to avoid visible holes or splits in a finished piece, the P635 is a great choice. The pinner is similar to a finish or brad nailer, but it uses smaller nails, so it fires fasteners that hardly leave a trace. Despite being a very thin headless fastener, the tool uses 23-gauge headless pins that provide a significant amount of holding power when driven in correctly. And because the pins leave holes that are practically invisible, there is no need for puttying and sanding. This means you'll achieve better-looking results while saving time.

The P635 also makes it possible to fasten pre-finished material. The removable no-mar tip works with smooth precision, so do-it-yourselfers and professionals alike can enjoy clean, expert results.

For added security and control, the pinner is built with a double-trigger safety, which prevents accidental firing. To fire a pin, you simply pull back the safety trigger and then engage the pinning trigger. For added convenience, the pinner includes quick access magazine storage for the wrench, magazine angled cut-off, and a fastener indicator that lets you know when reloading is necessary.

And to ensure a more relaxed work environment, the P635 has a rear-exhaust system with a built-in silencer, which directs the tool's exhaust away from the user and reduces the noise to a comfortable minimum. Constructed mostly of metal--with a hardened steel driver and nose piece, aluminum internal parts, aluminum housing, and aluminum extruded magazine assembly--this tool is built to last. And with a convenient belt hook, the pinner is easy to carry with you wherever you go.

Great for a Variety of Uses: From Frame Assembly to Joint Pinning
The P635's many capabilities give you the freedom to use it in a variety of situations, covering your pinning needs everywhere from craft shops to construction sites. Grex recommends the pinner for the following applications: finishing, molding, decorative trimming, lightweight paneling, dowel and joint pinning, window beading, display and sign creation, and assembly of mirrors, picture frames, rattan furniture, and more.

What's in the Box
Grex P635 23-Gauge, 1-3/8-Inch-Length Headless Pinner, plastic carrying case, bottle of tool lubricant, set of hex keys, and owner's manual.

This gun can save the day. You don't need glue to secure wood. The nails hold very well. This is high quality brand. Buy with confidence. An investment for serious DIY enthusiasts.

Worked great at first but doesn't take long to start not setting pins. Had less than 5 months now and driver pin broke

I added this pinner to my shop with my Senco brad nailer and my Husky crown stapler. I like this Grex very much, its configuration is very much like the Senco unit but about 3/4 size; it is small, lightweight, and gives no kickback. It accommodates a wide range of pin lengths, anything longer I would think would need the brad strength. I've used this pinner to drive through red oak in finished hardwood thicknesses up to 3/4" with no problems; through softwoods or laminated hard/softwood it passes very easily. The replaceable softip left no marks on the poly-varnished finishes, the pin almost disappears and is unnoticeable unless you are actually looking for it. The softip has markings on it for precise pin location. The pinner is fine enough to use for moldings and not having to go back and fill in the holes with wood filler or stain. Mine was delivered without the spare softip, after an email to Grex they sent me a spare in short order. The double trigger is easily worked and provides a fine pinpoint control over where the pin will be set. I had thought that I would prefer the press-to-arm lockout style that my brad gun has, but the double trigger works very well. The gun uses very little air, I am able to use it with my small hand-portable compressor very easily. It comes in a robust plastic case although the case latches are a less-than-substantial plastic slidelock rather than overcenter metal latches, but they work well just the same. The gun construction is substantial and feels good in the hand, the air connector is a swivel-joint type so the hose doesn't kink in tight spots. The air exhaust has a sintered bronze filter that reduces exhaust blast, the gun is actually very quiet. The manufacturer advises that the gun does need oiling through the air inlet and provides a small vial of oil for the purpose, I have not detected any oil leakage that might stain the woodwork through either the pin driver or the air exhaust yet. All in all I am very happy with this purchase and with Grex' response to provide the missing extra softip.

This is my first pinner so I have nothing to compare it to. I chose this one based on all of your reviews. All the good stuff said on these pages is true. The one thing I wish people would have mentioned is the pin rail issues. Some models stop firing when the pins get low, this one does not. Doesn't seem like a big deal but firing pins isn't like shooting framing nails when it is obvious you just shot a blank. One blank shot and you refill. Shooting blank pins makes no difference in noise. If you are not paying attention you could do it 20x. Here is the frustrating part. There is a little window on the pin rail. When the Grex brand pins disappear from the window you think, "oh I better refill now before I shoot a blank." Open the pin rail and just try to get a stick of Grex brand pins in there, can't do it!! If they made the rail 1/4" longer it would accomodate a full stick of their own pins in there when you could no longer see any in the window, but it is too short so you have to close the rail back up and shoot 7 more pins before you can get another stick in there. That is my only complaint. Scheeze there is plenty room to make that rail longer.

This is an excellent product, comes ready to use, and works perfectly. Quiet, light, and well made. Feels better than the Porter Cable I tried out, and extremely accurate. I used it at 90 psi with the 1 3/8" pins, and had no issues with putting pins through shoe molding, corner molding, pinning crown miters, etc.A very minor gripe: it is difficult to load a new clip of pins when there are a few still left on the old clip. The spring mechanism pushes the two clips together pretty hard when you close the magazine, and the ends of the clips can get doubled up, jamming the magazine. I was unable to fix this, so I just made sure I only refilled when it was completely empty. Kind of a hassle on the ladder, but there are so many pins in a clip it didn't matter to me that much. I don't know if this was a problem on the other pinner I tried out because I never thought to check. If you've never used a pinner, you should know that it is NOT going to replace your finish nailer. In other words, don't plan on a pinner to hold up oak trim on a coffered ceiling. You can put the smaller stuff (cove, bead) up with the pinner, and you get perfect results.Another great use for the pinner is holding the returns on small pieces of trim while the glue sets up. Things that you cannot clamp together can be pinned and you'll probably never see the tiny hole. Plus, no problems with splitting the end grains either! Saves me hours of hole-filling and irritation. This pinner has the dual trigger, and it works well. One safety note, don't get complacent about holding the safety trigger down and waving the gun around at the same time (away from the workpiece). There is no safety tip to depress, so it will fire away. It's all too easy to slide one hand a little too close to the tip while you're positioning and give yourself a new body piercing. Didn't do it personally, but it can be done...One thing this gun doesn't do as well as a finish nailer is shoot at shallow angle. There's no deep countersink to push the angled nails in, and the pins are so fine that the grain of hard wood will sometimes curve your angled shots and turn them out the side. If you're shooting near the joint between two pieces of wood, it will very easily just follow the joint instead of angling through them. Just take some care in lining it up before you pull the trigger and that issue goes away.A minor gripe: it is difficult to load a new clip of pins when there are a few still left on the old clip. The spring mechanism pushes the two clips together pretty hard when you close the magazine, and the clips can get doubled up, jamming the magazine. I was unable to prevent this, so I just made sure I only refilled when it was completely empty.***Update 12/16/2012***I like this more than when I wrote the original review, and though I've used it less this past two years than before, it still performs as well as the first day I used it. Also, it is amusing to have a tool that even some of the experienced cabinet guys don't have. When I show them there's no hole to fill in on that tiny trim stip, they do a double-take. "Wait, let me see that thing again..."They don't respect it when I take it out of the box at first, but all it takes is one or two shots, and they're in love with it...
