Almost certainly human error when evaluating purchase, but these are too small for many bowls that I turn. For smaller projects, these work well. Hinge is a bit tight, but you want that. Sand down one or both ends to prevent scratching your projects (points are quite accurate if this is not a concern)

Rivets are way too tight requiring a lot of force to open and shut. Tried silicone spray and moving the arms to loosen them up to no avail. Probably will return them. Otherwise size, shape and material are fine.Update:had them replaced and the next set was worse. Apparently the quality control department is on vacation. If you want to open and shut them with ease, probably not the right caliper to get. If you dont mind fighting them and hope they loosen up with time that's on you. You will need to sand off the sharp tips so they dont scrape or puncture.Amazon does make returns very easy.

What a wonderfully simple design - you can measure thickness in, say, a piece of wood that has a thicker border, and take the measurement off the back side of these double calipers. "C" calipers don't let you do that.

The calipers are well made. The description on Amazon could be much better. There are three calipers in the set and only one size given.
