I recently purchased a bird nest material ball that came with polyester filling, and while the concept is great, the execution falls short. The ball is easy to hang and birds do seem interested, but the polyester filling raises concerns. Polyester, being synthetic, does not blend well with natural environments and can pose risks to birds if ingested. Additionally, it lacks the insulating properties and comfort that natural materials like cotton, wool, or dried grasses provide. These natural alternatives are not only safer but also more environmentally friendly, ensuring that the nest remains a cozy and secure place for birds.

These are good, BUT!!!!! The filling is polyester, not cotton like the description says. I burned a piece, and it smelled like burnt plastic. I had some poly fill, and burnt it to test it, and it was exactly the same. This is harmful to birds because they cannot digest it. PLEASE BUY SEPARATE FILLING!!!

I hung my Globe Hummingbird Nesters on the same tree as my hummingbird feeder. The very same day, I observed them being used by one or more hummingbirds. The birds can easily poke their long beaks inside the nesters to pull out bits of cotton to use for their sweet little nests. I love watching them. Wonderful item. Well made at the right price. Highly recommend! :)

It took a bit of time, but our hummingbirds really use these a lot. Back when I got these (one season ago), I saw a lot of complaints that birds weren't using them. Neither did ours, at least at first - but here are some of the things I did and they use them all the time now.1. Wear fresh rubber gloves when messing with them. I have no idea if this matters - but I did it when filling them with cotton balls and when fiddling with the connections - and they use both of ours, so I'm including it here.2. Loosen up the cotton balls or filling before loading it in the twig ball. This will make it easier for them to pull apart. They can barely carry any of it (maybe the size of a peanut), so it needs to come apart easy.3. Anchor them to the ground with twine. I just loop it through a lower portion of the ball and then tuck it under a pot. Before we had it anchored, we saw a hummingbird trying to use it and the thing was swinging all over - the bird had no chance.4. Pull some fluff out to make it easy for them - they will figure it out and you won't need to do it again, unless you feel like it.5. Place them near your feeders, but not right on top of them. I think ours are a bit too close, as the bird pulling fluff can be frightened by birds trying to feed - so close enough to notice, but not so close as to create a traffic jam. I will move ours a bit further away next Fall.6. We put ours under the eaves of the roof - which keeps them from getting nasty. Plus they stay fairly dry (even here in WA) which is good, because the birds need to rebuild after each storm. Our birds seem to use them year round - but definitely more in the Spring.7. Don't get discouraged if it takes some time for them to use these. Leave them up and don't worry about replacing the cotton - it will dry out fast. It took a year for them to take to ours. I suspect some of that had to do with anchoring them and some had to do with timing. Either way they use them now.Good luck!
