This is made of very thick and sturdy cardboard material, which I guess is better than plastic in some ways, since it will be chewed on by our little hamster either way. It is bigger than expected. It was easy to put together, and I just decided to secure the connections with duct tape as an added measure of security.

I was really impressed with the size and sturdiness of these tubes. However, the listing is somewhat misleading. Rather than disclosing the type of glue used, the product description states, "Made from unbleached cellulose fiber tubes, with no plastic, staples, or glue, this material is safe for your precious pet." However, the T-shaped and L-shaped tubes do have some pretty big globs of dried white glue holding them together. There are no visible glue clumps on the "hut", but it clearly uses some type of glue to adhere the "roof". The other tubes have no glue, and they fit together nicely. I opted not to use the glued pieces, and the other tubes are more than enough for my dwarf hamster. These are significantly larger than average plastic hamster tubes, giving my little hamm plenty of room to run around the hoard his treasures!

I was very impressed with these. As I was taking out each portion and linking them together I was thinking how sturdy and well made they are. Then I look inside one of them (as I had been doing) and see large drips of white glue. Oh man. It LOOKS like Elmer’s glue but that often dries clear. I don’t know what kind of glue it is and I have to say it’s extremely disappointing. The other pieces did not have white glue showing. However one other piece did have clear glue.I’m torn. I really am. The tunnels are large, hefty and durable. They would provide an excellent chewing experience. However I don’t like that there is obvious glue! For me I chose not to use the pieces with visible glue. It’s concerning and I’m not going to risk my animals health. It was ALMOST an excellent product. I would even rather the pieces just be pushed together without any glue. Even if it’s not as ‘sturdy’ it would be safer.
