Product Description

Handheld Digital Tachometer

Default is 02 mode, check if the displayed RPM is close to the actual RPM.

Yes, it's very close. → No changes needed

No, it's twice as big as the real one. → Press the right button change to mode 01

No, it's twice as small as the real one. → Press the right button change to mode 03

  • Speed Mode Setting: long press (SET) key, the screen will display 01, 02, 03, 04 in sequence; (screen 01, 02, 03, display the speed mode corresponding to various engine strokes) The factory default value is 02 Speed mode. Releasing the button with your finger will flash the displayed data for 3 to 5 seconds and then confirm the start of the speed mode, and then you can measure.
  • Shut down: Hold down the (SET) key, the screen will display 01, 02, 03, 04 in sequence; when the screen displays 04, it will flash for 3 to 5 seconds. After stopping, confirm to start the system reset mode, and press the (MODE) key at the same time Press and (SET) until the full screen is displayed (the recorded working time and speed data are cleared).
  • Long press (MODE) key to view historical high speed data.

  • FQA: It's a mistake to think of the 02 mode as a 2-stroke and the 03/04 mode as a 4-stroke. Because some 2-stroke engines are suitable for 02 mode and some 2-stroke engines are suitable for 03 mode, it is not intuitive to use 02 for all 2-stroke engines and 03 for all 4-stroke engines.
  • FQA: The general carburetor and motorcycle are almost idling about 1000 rpm, if the EFI motorcycle is about 2000 rpm, the chain saw is generally in 02 mode, and the idle speed is about 3000 rpm. All chain saws are in 02 mode, carburetors/motorcycles are generally in 02 mode, EFI motorcycles are in 03 mode, outboards have their own, generally 01 or 02 mode, EFI (non-gasoline engine) can not be used, diesel engines cannot be used, 2-stroke single cylinder and 2-stroke 2 cylinders are counted as two-stroke, generally corresponding to 01 mode.
  • FQA: If you switch modes during measurement, the measured value is not a multiple. it should be a problem with the wiring, either the clamp is not clamped steadily, or the tachometer does not know where to put it, and there are other interference signals going in. First fix it in a place where there is no signal going in, for example, if the signal goes in, there must be a number jumping. After fixing, this crocodile clip and then clamp the spark plug tube, and then the engine opens, if the jump is relatively large at the beginning, it is estimated that the engine is not hot, and the number may not be stable at this time.
  • FQA: You should have a certain understanding of your engine, for example, the approximate range of motorcycle idle speed is 1000 rpm, the engine is hot, the tachometer is connected to the spark plug tube, the default is 02 mode, if the readout data is 2000, then choose 01 mode. If the data read by the 02 mode is about 1000 rpm, then the 02 mode is selected. If the 02 mode reads out only about 500 data, then change it to the 03 mode. The reason why we don't use 02 for 2-strokes and 04 for 4-strokes is because there are many unconventional engines on the market, and there is no fixed mode to fit all engines.
  • FQA: If it is a chain saw, the spark plug pipe, also known as the high-pressure envelope, may be hidden inside, and the clamp cannot be clamped, and the winding wire needs to be measured. Some chainsaws have an external high-pressure envelope, while others are hidden inside the bottom of the stove. Our tachometer has a copper sheet, the copper plate to induct the chain saw, close to the spark plug tube, the reading data will be relatively accurate, if it is far away from the signal source, the reading data will be inaccurate.

UPDATE 4 MONTHS LATER: My boyfriend finally got around to testing the RPMs on his antique car. He knew from experience that the RPMs are supposed to fall around 400. It was a pretty sunny day, and the sunlight reflected on the tachometer's LCD display. My boyfriend kept moving the unit for a good connection as he held it to the sparkplug wire, so I could not record a video of the 1-minute process. I took several photos and only attached these 4 that show the numbers all over the place. In the final analysis, my boyfriend said this DDayuanwei Handheld Digital Induction Tachometer is not as accurate as he hoped. He'd need to use a higher end tachometer to compare its accuracy for sure and lowered this review to 3 stars instead of 5.Original Headline: Appreciate the accuracy.I ordered this DDayuanwei Handheld Digital Tachometer for my boyfriend because he has several power tools/equipment. When it arrived, I was astounded at how small it is, but my boyfriend smiled and said that was okay because it can easily fit inside his toolbox. He tested it out on his lawnmower and appreciated it's accuracy. He even sent a text to his buddy up north to ask him if he had one. His friend, who owns a multitude of chainsaws, said he used to have one and liked it. My boyfriend said he can borrow ours, if he ever needs to check on some rpms. The current price of $24.99 with a 15% off coupon is a good purchase, considering most other Tachometers available on Amazon like this one, are at least $27.00.

I do a lot of small engine work and RPM can be an important factor when trying to diagnose a problem, or just getting it set to the right idle. This unit is very easy to use, instructions are simple and all my readings, which I checked against with another tach were spot on.I'm I big fan of the clamp style units instead of the wrap around the plug wire style ones. I don't need ot permanently attached to it, I need to check it and move on to the next broken thing, so big props for that.Compact and easy to read display makes this a great tool in my toolbox.

This is so simple to use. I was having issues tuning my Chainsaw, which made it so easy. All you have to do is hold it next to the sparkplug, and it will pick up the RPM.I tried the clamp, and it was just as accurate as holding it close to the spark plug wire. The only negative thing is the instructions, but you don't need them; all you have to do is turn it on and hold it next to the plug.So far, this is a welcome addition to my toolbox.great item

This is a neat little tool and if you know how to use it would be very handy to have. The instructions are terrible. I cannot figure out how to set this up for 2 cycle or 4 cycle engines or the number of cylinders.I also asked a question if the battery on this can be replaced. I never received an answer. Upon receiving this, I found the answer is no. If you can’t replace the battery, consider this a disposable tool. Personally, I don’t want to get invested in something like this if it will randomly die at some point and I have to learn something new.Supposedly this will track hours to better manage your maintenance schedule. If the battery dies, what good is it?I can’t believe you are expected to throw this away and buy another one when the battery goes. No thanks. I’m not in the market for this design. Did I mention, the instructions are terrible. It is too much effort for me to try to figure it out.UPDATE - I raised my rating from 2 to 4 stars because the unit works well if you can confirm the modes are set properly. If there is too much confusion due to lack of clear instruction this is useless to the customer. With modern translation tools, there is no excuse for poor instructions. The seller provided the following detail as a result of my comments above. This detail adds more framework around the right selections for your engine:“ Here are some instruction about the tachometer, hope it is help for you. Our tachometer has 4 modes: 01-02-03-04. The 01,02,03 mode is a simple multiplier relationship, and the rotational speed value is doubled. Assuming the same engine and the same idle signal, read in 01 mode, the result is 1000 rpm, then using 02 mode to read is 2000 rpm, and using 03 mode to read is 4000 rpm. 04 is for reset, leave it alone. It's a mistake to think of the 02 mode as a 2-stroke and the 03/04 mode as a 4-stroke. Because some 2-stroke engines are suitable for 02 mode and some 2-stroke engines are suitable for 03 mode, it is not intuitive to use 02 for all 2-stroke engines and 03 for all 4-stroke engines. The general carburetor and motorcycle are almost idling about 1000 rpm, if the EFI motorcycle is about 2000 rpm, the chain saw is generally in 02 mode, and the idle speed is about 3000 rpm. If you have any questions please let us konw and we will happy to deal with it.”I would still like to see a matrix of settings and scenarios so the user can be clear when setting it up for their 2-stroke, 4-stroke engine and number of cylinders. The verbal description leaves too much potential for confusion. Also, the battery should be replaceable to eliminate waste and allow for the tool to be used longer.

This works great. It's very simple and does the job it was intended to do. It seems pretty accurate so I would definitely recommend this for someone trying to tune an engine just right.

Mode and Set button are not easy to use. Nothing about this item is intuitive or easy to set up. And the included instruction sheet talks about setting but no real explanation of each function.
