I ordered this to place outside my door. After seeing some other reviews mentioning it possibly being a fire hazard, I did not want to put it near anything flammable. Hence it was placed on the ground in front of our stairway. It took a bit of time, but it did melt most of the snow.I have used it twice now. Once during a 3” snowfall and one during a 6” snowfall. Each was approximately 24hrs long.So far, so good.I turned the unit off once all the snow and ice is gone.I’m not sure how long this will last though as the material feels very thin. Also It took a few days unrolled in a warm house to get it to lay flat. I fear it may get brittle in time. Seems more plastic than rubber…?Time will tell.

I like that it does a good job. We've gotten over 100" of snow this year and this mat allows the dog door to always be accessible for going out. Sometimes that's as far as they can get because of the deep snow. What I do not like is that it can't be piggybacked with another mat. This is a stand alone mat that can't be added to. Another thing is the make up of the mat is thinner and more flexible than the other snow melting mats that we own. It works fine but I don't think it would hold up to heavy human traffic because of the thickness of the mat.Another good thing is that It has a nice plug that would "trip" if the mat were to short out for whatever reason. Safety is important.

We live in Utah where winters can get a decent amount of snow and ice. I got this to put in front of the door to keep ice and snow from forming. It’s easy enough to use, but one single mat doesn’t have enough square footage to really make much difference. It seems you would want several to line a sidewalk or driveway or something. The other day I walked out and had a thick layer of ice on my car so decided to use this to speed up the defrosting process. It does heat up quickly and did help, but it doesn’t completely cover my windshield and not sure it was actually worth the effort to set up. There’s a decent amount of technology in it, build quality is fine and seems durable enough, but overall functionality is minimal for my uses. Doesn’t seem to be the best value for the money.

I got this mat to go with some others that I have to help make snow removal easier, but the only way I can use this is with an extension cord. We just had two outside outlets added to our house a couple of months ago to be able to plug in holiday decorations and stuff like this snow melting pad. Unfortunately, the plug for this is so big that it will not fit into the receptacles and allow the plug to go all the way in. So the only way I could use this is with an extension cord, which would just add to the tripping hazard of having this out. I will say that the surface of this mat does feel kind of slick without any liquid on it, so it might be a slipping hazard with melted snow in it. I can't recommend this mat because I can't use it in my outlets.

So, hate walking onto your front porch or back deck to see the salt quit working during a snow storm? Me too. This was perfect for outside my back door on my deck. Plug it in, lay it down and it works. Keeps all snow gone. Easy to clean as well!

this thing is pretty cool and works nice but I still think he's got to be done that's even better

In my opinion, this is a waste of money. I tried to run it down from one stair to the other and it just doesn't flow that way. So it basically is only good laying flat on a straight strip. It only covers a very small area of the step and if only one step is being kept snow free, and not even the entire step, it's really useless unless of course you only have one step. The water from the melting snow pools on top of the sheet so you have to be careful where you discard the water otherwise you'll just end up with an icy step.

This is a great idea. It does work. It is definitely durable. Feels very heavy duty. It's definitely easy to use. The plug does seem waterproof, which is very good, because the disposition of the melt water is an issue. It doesn't go anywhere. It just pools underneath the pad. Then it refreezes lol. It is also pretty slow. It took several hours to melt the patch of ice by my door. I'm not sure how to solve the water pooling and refreezing. It does work, but there is room for improvement. 4 stars.
