Not round, 5.5" across at one measurement, 5.1" across at another, leaves big gap in cutout. Cheap silver paint, positive it's not galvanized. Should've known better for $15.40.

Made of thicker material than the one included with the heater and a larger footprint it makes for a very clean install. All the cutouts were correct including the one for the fuel pump power wire. Used a (140mm / 5-1/2") hole saw and it worked perfect.
