I had thought a collet chuck would be more accurate than a 3-jaw chuck, if for no other reason than the lack of moving parts. It turns out that while the outside rim of this chuck has no discernible runout, the collet holder itself has .0035" of runout. My 3-jaw chuck is that accurate. For the price, I guess it's OK, but next time I will spend the money on a proper one from a local tool supplier.

The chuck itself is very well made, good finish and very precise, however they sent the wrong wrench.I had to grind out the inside radius to get it to work, not a big deal but a bit of a pain.

Incorrect taper on part. Will not pull flush on the machines face and 5 thou + runout.

This chuck did fit my lathe but then needed to be pounded with a hammer to get it off the spindle nose. It is close to D1-4 but not quite, it will require a little bit of rework. An awful lot of money for what it is, even when the price is down at $150 from $220.

Received it from Amazon all OK. Stud lengths were wrong, but easily corrected. Then proceeded to mount on the lathe. Unfortunately run out was over 25 though. So checked the back mounting surface (the face that mounts to the D1-4) and it was OK with about 1/2 though run out. Main problem was the internal mounting taper. So absolutely useless and have initiated a return. So it seems hit and miss on the quality of these. OK nothing lost but my time thanks to Amazon's excellent return policy.

The Collett nut was machined off center, look at photo. Returning and then re-ordering again

For the money this has been perfect. I’ve used it for a couple of years now and it’s always rigid and accurate. I love it and have no hesitation recommending it.

Taper on mating surface not machined large enough so it would not pull tight to my D1-4 lathes mount. Unfortunately I was under a time crunch and needed to use it otherwise I would have returned it. Spent time placing shim material between it and the D1-4 mount and got it to run true. The installed length of the camlock studs was incorrect also but that was an easy fix. Buy a better one!

I bought this chuck because I needed to hold 1" round stock in an ER40 collet for some production work I was doing. I machine on an EMCO-MAIER 10 lathe, which is a precision Austrian machine with exacting tolerances, but my Austrian collets are ER25 and do not go up to 1". I was pleased with the finish and workmanship on the chuck and it did indeed easily mount on my D1-4 spindle. As would be expected some adjustment of the D studs was necessary (easy) to ensure the chuck snugged up tight to the spindle. Checking exterior of chuck with dial indicator showed variation no greater than my spindle alone ( 0.0001), so I was very pleased. Checking for concentricity with the internal bore for the collets, I found it greater than 0.0002 and closer to 0.0008, which was acceptable given the Chinese collets I was going to use for this project. So overall I was very pleased with the purchase and it will do the work i need to perform. Some observations, however, are in order. On the Amazon website it says the concentricity is 0.0002, but in a 2016 HHIP flyer it says the concentricity is 0.0008 for #3901-5042, priced at $92.47 which is same as the Amazon price. In a recent 2017 HHIP flyer, however, model #3901-5042 is listed as a concentricity of 0.0002, but is now priced at $83.47 by HHIP (I don't know the present Amazon price). So pay $9 more and you get worse concentricity? Duh! In truth I never trust the accuracy/precision claims on Chinese machine tools and I recognize you get what you pay for. Ultimately you have to check the equipment yourself to see if it has the precision to accomplish the task before you.

Pretty good accuracy, took a while of messing around to get it dialed in. Does a good job once its set up.
