Used in applications with nuts and bolts. The flat washer provides a greater bearing surface which helps prevent a nut or bolt head from tearing through the material. Flat washers are commonly used in decks and fence building. The called out size is the inner diameter of the washer.

The price for just 50 washers is over $25 at a large home hardware store. I got the 50 for about $14. The form, fit, and quality equal or exceed the products I found at the large home hardware store.
