This is a lot larger and heavier than I expected. I could fit my phone, keys, wallet and a good sized lunch in this box! Actually it's about the size of a lunch box. It's pretty sturdy made of a thick hard plastic, which explains its heft. You won't accidentally break this thing. The inside is padded on the bottom and sides and the top is clear so you can see inside. It also comes with a lanyard. It closes easily with two buckles that snap into place. I did a water test and not only is it waterproof, but also floats so you don't have to worry about it sinking to the bottom of the river. But you may have to catch up to it if the river is running fast :).

For my purposes, to house a spice and herb kit for overland camping, this shall perform quite satisfactorily, though there are much less expensive alternatives that would do the job (there are also much more expensive alternatives). Obvious from the photos, this is hard-sided and given its size, nearly crush proof. That is not the same thing as unbreakable, and though it will fair relatively well in that respect, its hinges and especially its unprotected latches, are more vulnerable than I’d like. Speaking of latches , they merely snap into place and rotate on a metal rod press fit into three wings molded into, but standing out from, the lid. There is no failsafe mechanism integral to the latch to prevent opening. There are, however, two small matching ears to the outside of each latch. One is in the lid, one is in the body, with a corresponding hole that will fit a small loch, or more likely, a zip tie. These are more suitable for prevention of accidental or casual unauthorized opening, but no significant deterrent to theft—a medium sized wire cutter or the saw on a Swiss Army knife would make quick work of them. The rear piano style hinge again incorporates multiple cast in ears with a full length rod pressed into them. The ears fit tightly to each other, but the operation on mine is very smooth and, at least so far, squeak free.Water (and dust) entry is restricted by a presumably silicone gasket set in to the groove side of the tongue and groove mating surfaces of the lid and body. Resistance to the compression of this gasket is what provides the necessary pressure to seat the latches and keep them closed. No gasket, no seal, no closer of the latches. Thus the silicone ring that forms the gasket is essential to the full functioning of this box. I have no reason to believe it is readily available as a replacement, so the effective life of this box is conditional on the life of that gasket—I wish the box came with a spare. Instead it comes with a short “wrist lanyard” though I can’t imagine who would find it desirable to having this box dangling from their wrist. It does have two more ears to which one can attach a longer length of parachute cord.So not a bad box for many purposes where your gear needs protection from the elements. But not a box i am willing to trust for expensive diagnostic or communications equipment.

It's larger than expected. I have several similar boxes, but they are about half the size.It has an o-ring on the lid that seals against a raised lip on the box. This is typical of this type of box. There are only two latches. The latches have no mechanism for holding the lid tightly shut - just the springiness of the plastic. That may not be great for longevity, but it works well enough when new.It comes with a lanyard and a few options for where to attach it. The lanyard is long enough and thick enough to be useful.I like the little bit of padding glued to the inside of the box. I sort of wish that could have been in the lid too, but of course, you couldn't see through it then. I don't think the padding will do much to protect the contents, but it will silence it somewhat when it slides around inside. The lid and latch hinge pins are metal. The plastic seems to be a good quality. It doesn't feel cheap at all.Overall, it will be a very useful container for something or another. I'm sure I'll find a good use for it.

This box really is a waterproof dry box--it didn't leak after being immersed in water for an hour--and roomy enough to hold a useful amount of fishing lures, sandwiches, delicate electronics, all those update documents from the local fish and wildlife wardens, etc. It's a bright yellow color with a clear lid, so if it goes overboard it should be easy to spot in a choppy lake.At $32, it's a little expensive, but not out of line when you look at similar products sold at REI or Amazon.
