ANCHOR FLEXPLATE TO THE GROUND
- Bed your FlexPlate below the topsoil into sturdy ground. Hammer in the two included 12" rebar stakes through the FlexPlate holes and into the ground; cover with excess dirt.
CUT & INSERT YOUR LICKING STICK
- Find and cut a sapling (a species you've seen deer scent mark on your property). Secure your sapling into the spring with included thumbscrews. Trim your sapling until it sits up straight in your spring, bigger is not better for this setup.
APPLY ALLSEASON SCENT
- Apply AllSeason Scent liberally to the main stem and leaves of your Licking Stick, and work the ground around your spring like a traditional mock scrape. Sit back and watch deer interact with your HODAG Licking Stick System!

Absolutely amazing product, this is a great tool to get deer in the rite spot and to get plenty of pictures of deer to inventory what you have around, simple to install and you will love checking the photos this thing will produce

I used this last year and was totally impressed by the amount of time each deer stayed at the licking stick. It is worth every cent. I just purchased another one to put behind my ground blind.

I purchased 3 of these for the 2019 hunting season. and setup all 3 in different foot plots near tree stands.It's a good concept but there is definitely room for improvement. The spring just sits on top of the plastic base and isnt directly connected to it in any meaningful way. The tree branch you choose slides into the spring and is held in by 3 wing nuts which is OK but not great.First, it would be far better if it had a metal base. A thin metal is more durable than a thick plastic...especially if you have to hammer 2 metal rebar stakes into the plastic base. I havent broken mine but I could imagine one miss of the hammer might crack that base in 2 especially if its cold outside.Also I thought it would be easier to find a good tree branch. Definitely not as simple as the videos demonstrate as youre pretty limited with the width of the base to only and inch and a half or 2. That part in the video where they trim a few branches and it sits upright...yea thats not exactly real life. I found it very difficult to balance out the branch so it wouldnt lean heavily to one side. Basically ended up taking off most of the leaves on all 3 just to get them to stand up straight.Finally, we had 40mph wind storm come through and I found 2 of the 3 sticks were laying on the ground afterwards. Youd think if they were meant to take the abuse of a rutted up buck they should be able to handle a little wind.I'll try setting them up again next year but I'm not convinved they are any better than digging a hole and putting a post or tree branch in and tamping the base real well.The springs seem like a great idea in theory but didnt hold up as well as I had hoped.As far as the scent bottle that comes with each box I wouldnt put too much stock in them. Who knows how long they are sitting on the shelves or went through temperature changes from manufacturing to shipment to store display. Don't assume youre getting quality scent with these.I had high hopes for this product but it ended being average at best and thus why I gave it 3 stars.

After the first day out it's doing what it's advertised to do. Had 3 does and 4 fawns check it out in the afternoon. This coming weekend I will see if the bucks have started rubbing on it. At the very least checking the camera will tell me if the bucks have checked it out. So, far I am satisfied with this product.
