I love these steel shot bags. Smaller while still having the weight. The material is much better than the original bags. I wonder if the new "pro (sand)" line uses the same material. Nice feel and grip.

I love my Steelbell. It is very sturdy and I slam it on the ground for certain exercises. I bought the 10b bell. It works the grip and hand strength as you hold on to it for your exercises. I even packed it in my luggage and carried it with me when we went on vacation.

I got this Steelbell to serve two purposes: One, to use on its own in the usual ways, and two as a weight to put inside my Bruteforce Athlete Sandbag. The Steelbeel is particularly suited for the latter purpose because steel shot is supposedly about twice as dense as sand and therefore takes half the space for a given amount of weight. My sandbag comes with two sand filler bags, but I find that taking the second filler bag out and putting it back in, in order to vary the weight of the Sandbag, is too tedious to bother with. So I just use the larger filler bag, with 40 pounds of sand, as my base -- my minimum. To that, I add the Steelbell for another 15 pounds. (I also have a 20-lb ankle-strap weight that is also very compact and will fit in with or without the Steelbell, allowing me to make the Sandbag weigh 40, 55, 60, or 75 pounds, all with compact, easy-to-change-out weights. Unlike the Steelbell, the ankle weight is hard, so you have to make sure not to hit yourself in the head with it.)As to the Steelbell itself, its got a great feel -- sort of like a heavy, solid-feeling pillow -- and seems very sturdy. I've used it to slam (indoors, on a carpet; I wouldn't throw it on something rough like concrete or asphalt, which might eventually damage it). It's very satisfying because it slams "dead," like a slam ball. I've also used it to do a sort of sit ups where you rock up and toss the 'bell up in the air, then catch it, a move I first learned using a Dynamax-type medicine ball but which works just fine with the Steelbell as well. I've also used it in a move where you twist and, holding the 'bell in both hands, swing your arms from one side to the other -- and low to high -- as if you were going to throw the 'bell (but you actually just hold on).The question is whether it's worth the extra money for the Steelbell as compared with the similar-looking Sandbell, which is filled with sand. I've never had one of those, but I know that they're significantly larger (because sand is lighter), which may or may not matter to you (it would for me, because, as I said, I need the compact weight to put in my sandbag). I've heard from some that the Sandbell tends to leak sand a bit, though I don't don't doubt that the Sandbells are pretty good too, while the Steelbell does not leak. There's a competing brand called the GRIPR -- whose heaviest is 10kg, or 22 lbs, and which is a bit less expensive, though still costly -- but I don't know how that compares. The GRIPR supposedly uses "steel sand," while I'm not sure if the Steelbell has courser "shot" or also fine steel sand. But anyway, you can't go wrong with the Steelbell, if you don't mind the inherent extra expense of steel shot over sand. I find that the 15-pounder I got is very useful both on its own and as a sandbag filler weight; I think a 20-pounder would be good for both purposes as well.

I was worried about ordering only a 10 pounder to get started. I am sooooo glad I did! I've been swinging a 20 lbs soft kettlebell. Big deal for me after being left idle for more than 18 mos thanks to a stupid drunk driver. This thing handles a lot different than any other weight, and the compact size makes it comfortable, yet the steel shot makes it challenging. Weird, I know, but you'll see when you get yours. This thing will kick your butt! Trust me, you will feel it even if you've been working with slightly heavier weights. I have no doubt that in a month or so I will need a heavier Steelbell to add to my collection. Much like the soft kettlebells I have, this is nice because I don't have to worry about scratches, bruises or breaks to myself or damage to my furniture. Two caveats, though: 1) do not try to swing it near a tv, it can slip out of your grip; 2) CLIP your finger nails! :) I thought I kept mine short, but apparently not short enough! :) I think by following some of the free Hyperwear Youtube videos, one can get some really great workouts. I have done a couple of simple moves with this and can feel my core, shoulders, arms, and hands at work. Nice!

As a Personal Trainer with clients who enjoy intense workouts, the 20 Lb, SteelBell added a great twist to their programs. The shifting weight coupled with need to grip (rather than just palm and wrap dumbbells), brought new muscles and dynamic movement into play with more focus on the areas being worked. The overall quality of the Hyperwear product, with significant usage in a short period, prompts me to want to introduce more of the line into my toolkit. I'm always looking for top caliber apparatus to bring into the personalized routines that I work with my training team. The SteelBell fits the bill!

I bought this thinking I could do two hand kettle bell swings, but I don't think my grip is strong enough to hold this and swing it as hard and fast as a KB. Still, I use it A LOT for clean, press and jerk. That hits calves, thighs, posterior chain, back, biceps and shoulders. I do that 60 seconds and take a 60 second break. If I tap the floor with this at the bottom of the movement, my downstairs neighbor will never hear a thing or a thud. Tapping the floor isn't cheating because this has no bounce. If I drop this on my foot, not that I plan to, the weight is over a large enough area to probably not hurt. In 6 months, I hope I am strong enough to want the 50 lb steel bell. I think this is my favorite piece of weight lifting or exercise gear ever. I warm up with lighter gel balls and dead balls.

Great weight training tool!! Really stimulates the muscles. Made VERY WELL and MADE in the USA!! The steelbell feels MUCH HEAVIER than the sandbell version and also the size is smaller due to the lead shot that it's filled with. Highly recommended!!!
