I shoot a 32lb rifle and this ball head makes my death grip tripod even better. The fact that I'm over 6 ft tall I used to have to bend over to shoot and now I don't

Functions correctly, but not the smoothest of operation. Holds great where it is locked down.

My husband loves it and uses it to hunt with so it's amazing to have. It holds the weight of his gun. Functionality and adjustment capability is amazing he moves it every which way. And the lockability he says hold it in place so sturdy. Fits like a glove for his gun

Quality is good everything works. But the swivel base will induce a slight amount of defection when it's locked down with a heavy rifle. Just lock it down a little lower and good to go. Very smooth to use and helps shave weight off of the tripod. And I'm using a decently heavy rifle. Lockability is good.

Never really liked my BOG Death Grip tripod. Not nearly as smooth or as stable as I would like. Considered buying a different tripod with a ball mount, but most good ones are $400+. Watched a YouTube video where a guy swapped in this mount and thought I'd give it a try. Not a difficult job to swap out and I modified the Death Grip clamp by adding an ARCA rail on the bottom. Now I can use the tripod for my AR guns with rails and my bolt guns requiring the cradle. Really thrilled with how it came out and the quality is excellent. Without having to really torque down the knob, it supports a 15 pound rifle securely in any position you desire and is smooth as silk. Love it, try it yourself.

I've had this ballhead for about a month now and put it through some paces. It's a 5-star ballhead for me. I've bought a few other "discount" (read: clones of $$$$-manufacturer products) ballheads and usually been pretty frustrated by them. This one has not been the case. This one is great - and interestingly enough it's the least expensive of the large-diameter ballheads I've used. It's stable, the big knob is a joy to adjust and gets the feel right for applying and taking off tension. The pan switch works OK - a bit granular - but not objectionable at all. The 3/8" threads on the bottom fit just right, snug up well on any set of legs I've tried it on, and the Arca-style clamp works with every L-bracket or arca plate I've put on it. If I lost it, I'd buy the same exact one again.I've dragged it around town shooting cityscape, traveled with it to Yosemite, and let it bomb around in the back of my SUV mounted on some legs for the rest of the time. I'm typically using this for focal length ranges of 12mm to 135mm (+/-). I leave telephoto shots to rock solid pan-tilt heads or gimbal heads for extreme telephoto work. Maybe I should give the ballhead a whirl with longer lenses. This isn't a paid ad or solicited in any way. If you're looking for a dependable, high-value, large-diameter ballhead, this one gets my nod.

I have several ball heads (including RRS). This is a nice ball head for general use. I did find some things that I thought were interesting, So, I will just go through what I noticed... It is a nice low profile ball head. The build quality seems to be okay. The Area Swiss had a hard time taking my Nikon 300mm f/2.8 sports prime ( I would have to remove the safety screws from one side of the foot to get the lens foot to slide into the clamp. Most Arca Swiss clamps open up far enough so the foot just falls right in.) A lot of other ball heads have a knob to adjust the tension, and another to adjust the position of the ball head. In some ways that is a good thing, and in most cases, I don't make the tension adjustment that often...it is a "set it and forget it" kind of thing. There is a little knob that adjusts the tension on the base for panoramic shots. It is right next to one of the cutouts where you can tilt your camera from landscape to portrait. At first I thought that they made a mistake because I could not tighten or loosen the tension on the base adjustment if the your camera was over in the portrait mode on that side. Then I noticed that that you could pull the little knob out a little bit, then you could rotate it a little and it would work like a ratchet sort of. So, I found that for the exception of my big lens not easily going in the clamp, everything else worked pretty well....It is just a little different from the other tripods that I have. Based on how this particular ball mount set upland for the price, this is a decent little tripod ball head.
