These are very handy little tools, if you work around electrical wires, switches, and the like. Every do-it-yourselfer should have at least one. I used to occasionally help a friend who is a licensed professional electrician, and he always kept several of these on his truck, and gave one to any assistant.You can keep it in your pocket or tool bag, and can test any electrical device before you work on it, for safety. When you have a number of wires in an electrical box, occasionally it will not be clear which wire or wires is/are live, but with this you can tell immediately. Or whether a switch is active or not, or if any device is receiving power.There is no danger of a shock, if you use the device correctly, and it does not require a battery. This one also has a small reversible slotted/Phillips screwdriver, and the price is right. Highly recommend. The only downside is it took a very long time to ship from China (5+ weeks). Be patient.
