I use mine occasionally for work, for the odd hard to reach wood lag bolt. Maybe once every two or three weeks. Have always bought Irwin and have otherwise been impressed with the quality, but not this time.It was always very difficult to get my impacts out of the tool after each use. Then one day it just fell right apart while in use. No idea how to put it back again. Very disappointed.

Loving this extension. Served it purpose multiple times in the short while I owned it. The impact ready is the trick!EDIT: 05/28/20: DO NOT BUY!After limited usage, since i did not need it all the time. It failed on me, and fell apart like "ORVIS ANDREWS" picture shows. I used "IRWIN" (IRWIN SPEEDBOR Drill Bit Set for Wood, 4-Inch, 6-Piece (1877239)) with it and actually locked my bit in the extender trying to get it out. When i did, i used it again and the piece just fell apart, the metal inside could NOT handle the torque as in the design. Specifically the reason why i bough it. Now it costs $20 for it online, and i cannot find it some local Lowes by me. At this point, its almost worth buying the $8 version they have in store that is not the impact model. The extension, did not fail, the quick connect adapter failed, like in ANDREWS photo. I did not abuse, or misuse is, i bought what was sold to me and the part failed. I had it for less than 3 years and used it maybe 10 times. My fault is i didn't use it all the time to truly expect the quality of this tool. I also bought the 12" version and it is still lasting, but then again, i only used that about 5 times in the less than 3 years of having it. Unfortunately IRWIN tools are becoming as a good as quality as harbor freight tools!!

The latching mechanism (the "chuck" that locks into the indents on quick-change hex shanks) literally fell apart the first time I used it. In a Harbor Freight 1/4" cordless impact driver, no less, so I'm fairly sure I wasn't overworking it.I gave it 2 stars because the main shaft (which contains the actual hex socket and magnetic retainer) is still usable with short impact bits, which is mostly what I needed it for in the first place. Oddly, that shaft seems to be of decent quality, I've had no galling or other deformation whatsoever.

Great extension! Solid.. the part that locks unto the bit is a little bulky but I've seen bulkier.. it's the kind of thing you don't want to wait till you need it to get.. just another weapon in the tool box
