I have used the Unibit (now Irwin) step drills for decades and they are the best. The cheapo ones sold by the cheap tool place and on Amazon don't hold up like Unibit. I finally wore out one of my old ones and decided to get this set. I couldn't bring myself to toss the old one so it is in the toolbox for when the usable steps (one was damaged) are needed. Anyway, get these and you'll get years of service and save in the long run. The most important thing is it will work when you need it.

This is something I bought for my son and he uses them on his truck. He is a jack of all trades and he is good at them all.

I was using the larger Unibit in this set on a piece of 1/8" thick aluminum, and the drill ruined itself. Pilot bit center, and each cutting surface up until the thickness I was going for (1/2") was completely ruined. With each cutting surface rounded near completely off.I tried to drill a hole in some 1/4" plywood afterwards, and it wouldn't even cut through. Needed to drill a 1/4" pilot hole to skip past the first couple of cutting surfaces.Hope they have some kind of warranty.

I'm doing a fiberglass car project, and these things leave much nicer edges than my normal pilot point bit sets. And even on un-masked gelcoat, this leaves minimal cracking. (Though I'd still recommend using masking tape, and cutting in towards the gelcoat).I like the right-most one, which has long steps -- it helps get nice straight holes, even through a fairly thick piece of fiberglass. The only minor thing is that I wish that there was more variety in sizes. The bigger one is, if I recall correctly, 3/4" at the largest. If the set had a narrow, medium, large one, it would be slightly more versatile, than the current set which has 2 narrow ones, and a medium one.

I have been using these for years and just needed some more. Anyone who has ever drilled sheet metal with a twist drill knows that you almost need to be wearing a kevlar suit to do it. These drills make it easy and remove most of the danger. I don't know if some of the other brands will compare with the Irwins but have had experience with Irwin I knew I couldn't go wrong.

Good drill bits, but not as advertised - came packed in plastic "blister", not in a case like on the photo.

If you aren't going to send these bits in the case that is shown then maybe you should advertise differently. I felt ripped off when I received my item and it did not include the case that was shown. Slick.......
