I haven't actually started stitching yet, but I have noticed that there is no blending filament. It's not even mentioned in the instructions or the pattern, so the kit must have changed without this post being updated. I actually don't mind that since I don't like blending filament, but I'm giving it three stars for being misrepresented- if the description hadn't said there'd be blending filament I'd probably give it four stars. The picture on the actual packaging looks way more deep blue than the teal/green of the online picture, but there's more teal/green thread than blue, so I think it will end up looking more like the online picture. Also, the pattern is a two-sided piece of paper (half on one side and half on the other) while the instructions are a one-sided piece of paper. I think they should have put half the pattern on the back of the instructions and then had the other half as a separate piece of paper so I could tape them together to see the whole pattern at once. The instructions have the color key for this particular pattern on them, so it's not like it wasn't printed specifically for this pattern. So now I have to decide if it's worth it to track down a copy machine that will copy 11x17 paper in order to make my one-page pattern or if I should just live with having to flip the paper.Otherwise I expect to really enjoy it. There's a great variety of fun colors. I like that it's a dragon. I'm excited to start working on it.Edit: One more thing. The kit includes all the thread from the list of thread colors and numbers of strands in the instructions, but then in the key and on the pattern there's some backstitching that's supposed to be "dark blue" when there is no thread that is named any sort of "blue" let alone "dark blue." I'm guessing it's either supposed to be dark turquoise (closest in name but as a blue I would consider it light) or very dark turquoise (which looks like it could pass for a dark blue), right? The picture on the packaging isn't clear enough for me to tell visually what exact colors the backstitching should be. When I finish I'll try to remember to update this with which turquoise I ended up going with.

So I recently decided I was going to start cross stitching and not being one to shy away at a challenge, decided to start here thinking, of course, that it would be an *embellished* cross stitch (meaning the picture is printed on the canvas), which it is not. But no matter! It turned out to be surprisingly easy. There are a lot of 3/4 and 1/4 stitches, and I still haven't quite perfected those but it doesn't really seem to matter. The colors are gorgeous and I really like the filament! But the real reason I made a review (which I don't usually do) was because of the company itself. I lost the instruction page which tells you which color coordinates to which symbol. Not really knowing what to do (aside from guess), I emailed Janlynn and asked if they could email me another instruction page. To my surprise, they responded within an hour and had it sent the next day (they won't email it for whatever reason, but beggers can't be choosers)! I was extremely impressed by this and will definitely be using this company to purchase my cross stitches from now on.Also, a note for beginners who suck at reading directions (like me): Don't forget to separate the thread!!! It says 2 strings, but I actually did 3 because I think it looks better and they give you way more than what you need. Just don't do what I did and complete half the border before running out of thread and realizing that's why.

I ordered this last week and was super excited to get it. I considered giving it 4 stars for a few reasons, but I am not bothered enough that I think it deserves less. The day after ordering it, I recieved an email that it had shipped along with a tracking number. The tracking number never worked. So I hung around my apartment a few days waiting, since an item I had ordered a few days ago was just left in the hallway outside my door. My building has over 250 apts, with a huge history of thefts. I didn't want to chance it walking off. Finally I realized it had just been left in the front office. Not the fault of anyone, except my own failure to think of this. Silly me, but this is only the second item I ever ordered online. Kinda a newbie in that department, except if the tracking number worked, I would have known it had arrived. Also, it was missing the yarn mentioned in the instructions to help identify the colors. The kit has twice as much floss as listed, so trying to identify colors based on how many strands are included is out. And speaking of twice as much, one color of gold floss for the border was missing all together. No biggie really because I have something close I can use. Finally my last bit of "surprise" was the colors itself. Purple, black and teal are my fav colors, so I was in love with this the moment I saw it. The color was my main reason for ordering this kit, but the color is more greenish then blueish. Every image I look at online of this finished looks teal, but mine is just pale green. It's still pretty, and perhaps the blending filiment will alter the color a bit. I've never used it before so I don't know much about it, and the effect it has on the floss. The little bit I have done doesn't look to "sparkely" though, so maybe I will double up on it and buy more online. I want my dragon to be really glittery. And last but not least, because the last thing I want is this review to sound negative, The price was amazing!!!! When I was searching around for images of the finished piece, to compare colors, I saw this for sale on a lot of websites, and even a few from stores that don't carry crafting stuff at all. Every single one wanted atleast 5 dollars more plus shipping. I'm so glad I saw it here first!!!
