Worked well enough to get me an RPM reading on my single cylinder lawnmower.RPM output was absolutely wrong when I set it to my motor type, but I was able to get it showing something normal after setting it to single cylinder 2 stroke.Adhesive on the display is holding up well, but I may still screw it down.At $14 CAD, there's not much to complain about.

If you know the RPM before you install, you can get it close to reading correctly

Take your time installing this. My install was on a DR650. For a 4 stroke you need to plan 5 full turns of the wire to be evenly wrapped around the actual coil. To get to the coil, plan on accessing it from the right side and removing a few things and then loosening the top coil bracket attachment screw, enough so you can feed the wire between the coil's attaching bracket and the coil, and loop it fully at least 5 turns. In reality you'll just have enough wire to do that by the time you route the wire to have enough slack around the steering head. Also I used plastic wire spaghetti to protect the whole length of this wire. I used quality tye wraps to hold the 5 loops around the coil. I routed the wiring on the left side following the throttle cables. I believe the RPM's are fairly accurate. Sometime after shutting the bike down, the display will still show 10 or 20 irrelevant rpm (This is incorrect: the display shows an hourly counter, currently at 2.0 Hours, NOT 20 RPM. In the dark, I didn't see this, so all is well). Don't forget to tighten the top coil attaching bracket's screw afterwards, I hope the bracket doesn't cut into the loops. I am not looking forward to repeating this installation when the battery dies in 4 or 5 years, but I'll find a way to fix that epoxy! ;)Two strokes are an easier install, since you loop the wiring around the spark plug boot.

As many reviewers have pointed out, the only problem with this unit is the manual. It was probably written in Chinese and translated by Siri. Just ignore it. You need to know your engine’s range or at least maximum RPM. If the device is showing a number that is way out there, like 10,000 when you know your engine is only capable of 3,600 RPM, switch to the next engine type until you see numbers that make sense. There are only 4 types programmed in and only one of them will give you numbers within range. Finding the right setting takes only a minute. After that it works flawlessly.
