Put these behind the seats of my 2-seat convertible. Hooked up to 140w RMS per speaker which is more than enough for these 100w RMS speakers. Set the filters and gains on my amp and the music has filled out very nicely. The bass is not overwhelming so if you want big bass or want those ultralow vibrations, you'll probably want to go with something bigger but for what it is, I'm satisfied. Nice clear tweets, punchy midrange and full bass range. At max volume, the system is uncomfortably loud. Because the vehicle is a droptop, if these came in a 10", a slightly larger enclosure and/or 150w RMS setup for just a little more punch, they would be just about perfect. In the cabin of regular car (or when the top is up) the bass hit from this is just about right.

Good product, clearly opened at one point, I should get a used price. I will never buy from jbl seller again.

I bought these to bring some up front bass in my SQ build station wagon. I was first impressed by the weight and solidity of the boxes. I separated the enclosures and mounted them under each front seat. Running alongside morel components and a FI 12” sub, they sound excellent and provide outstanding bass up front. While they could never fully reproduce the lows of a proper subwoofer, they do cleanly reproduce into the mid 20 Hz range at decent volume without signs of clipping. That’s on SSA 150 W/channel amp. I noticed that the grills were rattling so I had to use Closed Cell Foam to decouple them. I actually did not use them for subs but rather mid basses, bandpassing them from 80-300 Hz. They brought that meaty kick drum sound up front. With a mini dsp 8x12 it blended perfectly with my sub and didn’t sound muddy at all. This is a perfect option for someone who can’t fit 8” mid basses in their doors and doesn’t want to build huge door card baffles. Good job JBL Harman!!!

These subs are great they literally don't take up any space. They pack a punch though. I've heard other flat space speaker and they don't compare. The passive radiators make all the difference in balancing the bass. I currently have the in my 09 c300. There mounted on the rear trunk dash inside the car. So I didn't use them under the seat as they are to powerfull and overpower my mids and high. I mounted them back there and the sound couldn't be more perfect. I'm going to buy some more for my 08 x5.

Used in a Jeep CJ, slipped under the back seat where nothing else would fit. Ridiculous thump from such a small package. Bass radiators are wild and the technology has evolved a lot. Powered with a tiny Soundstream amp bridged to (an alleged) 250Wx2 using the low pass filter. These subs handle the gains all the way up quite nicely if desired, but I prefer to back off a little bit. They break in well after some hours of use. The one or two review complaining about distorted sound are from people that don't understand what a crossover is.... hint: if your amp doesn't have a subwoofer setting of any kind, you will be playing all high frequencies out of a subwoofer, which will distort like crazy and could blow the speakers. If you don't understand this, then just go find yourself some powered subs or a professional installer. Overall, stunning sound for the size and cost. Time will tell on the durability, but my home theatre subwoofers that use bass radiator technology seem to sound better as they age and get more use, so hoping for the same with these! Awesome first impression, and the sound is only getting better after a few months of use.

Had an Amp with half the max wattage and they blew up. Very unhappy with this product. Don't waste your money. Before they blew up the sound quality was junk.

Update after 4 years:I've tried a couple of semi-custom boxes for my truck. None of them had the sensitivity or tuning I wanted in a subwoofer. To get something behind seat for my extended cab that had a significant increase in performance I would need to model the available space, build a bigger box, and find suitable drivers--maybe even use these drivers/radiators if the T/S parameters would work well in something like a .75 ft^2 enclosure. If you're willing to run an under seat 2 ft^2 box and send 1000 watts to it, great! But if you don't want the added cost/complexity/space commitment of doing that, its *very* hard to ignore a solution that gives ~90db sensitivity with a sub-35 hz tuning frequency.Initial review:These are really well designed subwoofers. I'm running them in the stock stacked configuration sandwitched behind the seat in my 2017 f150. They barely fit without carpet trimming. I'm sure if i removed the seats and cut carpet i could get them mounted better. I'm not really sure how JBL did it but it seems like the f3 or f6 is at 25 hz (edit--probably higher but I never measured with a DATS), so in a car they play down to 20hz no problem to about 100db (edit: pink noise average, +6db bass low shelf, with low pass to -6db at 20 hz). If you really start to overdrive them you'll hear either the woofer or radiator jumping the gap. I put a 24db LR filter in at 25hz to minimize over excursion. If you have space for a larger box, that would definitely get more low output, but if you don't, these are tuned way lower than any other powered boxes i could find and are sensitive enough that a modest 5ch amp can drive them.
